I had an '03 ES model and I wouldnt buy another one

electric window servos

bubbling under window seals

leaking sunroofs

ABS sensor lights - in fact all the warning lights - that's why they are called Discos.

mine was an auto and would go into "limp mode" if i changed from reverse to drive too quickly.

there are other faults (Google is your friend) - in fact this guy has made his own website for faults - >HERE<

Hmmm the dreaded Td5 ... my friend is a landrover specialist owns his own garage and he couldn't wait to get rid of his own Td5 Disco ... lots of electrical problems etc, rear suspension problems must i go on ... he now owns 2 Defenders ... his and hers lol ... not sure if there 300's or Td5's ... but i know he had a whole load of problems with the Disco ... shame as there a lovely motor!

Corrosion boot floor, front inner wings under battery box and liners tend to wear holes around the fitments , body mountings esp first one on floor pan and forward of rear wheel arch, footwells, Rear door sill, check rear door hinge is not dropping.

Check front swivels for pitting and lubrication, brake discs, and diff housings (leaks or bad corrosion)

all of the above can be a deal breaker if the car has been used to launch boats.

TD5 engine should have had a injection replacement loom due to a design fault causing ingress of oil which works its way back to the ECU.

The TD5 ECU does not reset get a fault and you have to visit the dealer to clear the fault.

For my money I would not go beyond the 300TDi but then I have EP90 running in my veins and a big tool box.

Cheers for the input

In fairness though, his site is not just about the faults, he is just listing things that have gone wrong with his but there is no indication of timeframe or his general use of the vehicle (considering he states he likes 'wading' and is gearing it up to cross a Moroccan desert!!)

I bought an 03 td5 a year ago and love it. I bought the model without ACE or aircon (less things to go wrong). Look out for oil leaks from the fuel pressure regulator as this is a very common fault. Also leaky front windscreens , back door dropped on its hinges, oil in the ecu. Rust shouldnt be too much of a problem on the later td5's.

Mine has been chipped giving better performance and slightly better economy. Its a good all round fishing and shooting waggon :yp:

955i Dont be put off I had one quality motor I have top spec ES model I found the air suspenion great for loading my large lab into the back and saves his joints jumping out and my back.

I hitch and unhitch loaded trailes great lower pickup etc.

If it missing it will be the injector harness red plug next to battery box full off oil.

You want the rear suspenison air bags replaced within the last year with invocies to prove geniune dulops not S??parts items.

I sold mine at a profit and only sold it to fund a new chipper .

All the best OTH
