Chris Bb
Was at my favourite "straw bale" shoot today, it's very time limited due to local complaints and we have to hurry round to get two rounds in, today there weren't too many shooting so we went for a second round. At stand 4, a 2x2 crosser, we waited behind a family group we hadn't seen before. Dad instructed his lad who was shooting a .410 double barelled poacher's gun, sonny took 4 shots singly, not as following pairs, fair enough he was learning; mum then had a go with the same gun shooting 6 shots again taken singly, we waited patiently; dad then took 8 shots and was clearly preparing to take more. At this point we asked them to move on and let our group "have a go", by now the clock was ticking and we risked not finishing our round. OK, they moved back to stand 3 and we moved on; however we watched them overstay their welcome at stand 3 then they moved on, thankfully behind us, to stand 5 where, once again, they just kept on shooting. I don't know how many cards they'd bought, I suspect but can't prove that dad had bought his and expected mum and the lad to shoot for free. Apart from that, it was the fact that they just wanted to hog each stand and use it as a training feature regardless of groups patiently and politely waiting behind them for their turn that hacked me off. OK, we all take an occasional couple of extra shots at a difficult stand but don't bring the whole family for a freebie!
Paddy Galore!
That happens at a shoot i'm now going to, a group of four regulars, hogging a stand and having 3 or 4 turns each before moving on when the traps need filling, the thing is they know it's only a 50 bird sporting event. covlocks
You can see now why the Claymate System is being introduced everywhere - its expensive so the "straw bale" shoots can't go down that route. I guess the only way is to make sure no-one takes the urine is that every shooter has a card and there is a "ref" at each stand marking the shots. VULTURE
no mate, horsford. never been to churchills shoot, i find steve quite difficult to get on with sometimes, is it any good? Yes the shoot is good, different every time i go, Steve sits in the cabin talking to his friends and is rarely seen out with the shooters.I only know steve as i bought a couple of Guns from his shop. Whats the Horsford shoot like, can anybody turn up or is it the select few/members only club? always on the lookout for new places to shoot new friends etc. Cheers Vulture

I'll have a look at the fixtures list when i get back and send you a PM. regards, gram.
Chris Bb
You can see now why the Claymate System is being introduced everywhere - its expensive so the "straw bale" shoots can't go down that route. Whilst I agree, at clubs like ours it's nice to see members being trusted. Although, by my own tale, there are those, presumably not members, that can't be. I guess the only way is to make sure no-one takes the urine is that every shooter has a card and there is a "ref" at each stand marking the shots. All of which costs money and pushes up the price for all. A crying shame all around, our club owner does his best to vary the shoot each fortnight, provide good facilities and keep costs to a minimum. By and large, all the members and habitual visitors respect this, that's why it's so popular and we always muck in to help when necessary. The local anti's and casual visitors/abusers of the system can only make the owner wonder whether it's worth it. Clay shooting is an increasingly popular sport, we need every facility there is plus a lot more. I would also add that we need more facilities for training, shoots where there are stands solely for practice/training.
