sg1
Although I've had my SGC for a couple of months now, I've only been out once so far and that was Sunday just gone. Having NEVER fired shotgun before in my life, (I'm a FAC target shooter person usually) I stepped up to the plate, loaded my SxS 12g , took a deep breath, released safety and called 'PULL' ..... BANG!! ....... dusted!!! . I couldn't believe that my VERY first time out and on my VERY first shot, I hit the thing . A good Omen me thinks?? Well after a bit of expert tuition from my RFD (who I've known for years) and I had a few more hits under my belt, hit about 12/14 out of 35(ish) and yes I am now hooked , even my FEO was impressed (he was at the shoot too) Gonna get meself a nice cheap, reliable Baikal O/U 12g next week too. Jega
Welcome to the mad house mate ,just remember that we all stick together, so when the little lady asks how much do these guns cost ?.We all say about £70 or £80 for a really good one. Just like she says when a new pair of shoes miraculously appear,"well they were half price in the sale" .
sg1
Strangely enough, that's the price I quoted the other day on the subject of a Baikal O/U I can't wait to see her face when I ask for a Holland&Holland for Xmas LOL.........Think I'll settle for a Berretta

Renfield
You're doing well - better than me. I've only just taken up clay shooting, and I can't hit a damn thing other than the ones going away from me. I've been doing it about a month now, and only found out three days ago that I'm supposed to be leading the clays by a couple of feet. Can't wait to try again next week. sg1
yes indeed I will remind her of that, except in her case it's cakes LOL, anyhoo.... I may be going again this weekend to Goodwood for a clay shoot meet so I will see how bad I can make my father look there as well , No actually he has eyesight and arhritis against him slowly now, or at least that's what he told me (lying , bad loser lol) . I tell you one thing though- I love any shooting and as said I do Lightweight Sporting Rifle every week with my .22lr's but this clay shooting lark is REALLY getting addictive me thinks ATVB sg1

Jega
Good luck tomorrow mate .Now all you have to do is remember all the good stuff your instructor taught you and your laughing, the guns are just the same the cartridges are just the same and the targets are pretty much the same, so stop bloody fretting get your self out there and have a fantastic enjoyable day.Oh and dont forget to get on here tomorrow night and let us all know how many your lad beats you by. GOOD LUCK
sg1
@Jega, you have slightly misunderstood!! I AM the 'lad' , I'm going with MY Father who's 68 , If my lad beat me I would be really pi**ed off as he's only 5 , but I'll still come on Sunday afternoon and let you know how 'we' did
sg1
Well at least we fluffed it together LOL Me=08/50 Dad=13/50  5 stands, 5pairs per stand, we had high pheasants, teals, feather and fur(my favourite ) and some really stoopidly high ones that nobody could barely hit(I got one though ) but the main thing was that I/we had a good morning and it was my first time at a propper clay club which I enjoyed greatly. Even my RFD mate and his son had a bad run of it with only 57/100(combined) so I didn't feel too bad considering it was only my second time out and I was using a different shottie due to my SxS's safety catch kept coming on in between shots!! But I think I actually prefer O/U so I WILL be getting one VERY soon. Can't wait to go again
Jega
Glad you and your Dad enjoyed it mate , it really is what the sport is all about, meeting like minded people, helping each other along where you can and generally spending some quality time away from bloody mortgages and bills and the like. Don't worry about your scores they will get loads better over time, have a couple of rounds of english skeet now and then to get you swinging the gun a bit more naturally and smoothly,me and my 16 year old lad often have a round of skeet before we venture onto the sporting stands and its surprising how much it helps .He still beats me every time though so i reckon its helping him more then me . sg1
EXACTLY right mate, - the minute I start losing the 'fun' aspect and start getting serious- it's time to take up knitting or bird watching!! I spend SO MUCH time with the missus, I NEED to get away at least once a week.
bullet1747
licence one day straight to the dealers( ugartechea s/s 12 bore) ,following week 410 webley bolt action, week after ugartechea s/s 12 bore, hooked and no room in cabinet (need bigger one )
JonD
Glad you are enjoying it It's a great way to spend a day\weekend and forget about normal stuff I wouldn't worry about the scores so long as you are having fun I only started about a year ago but am addicted so i know the feeling Try skeet as it will help you, I started shooting skeet as it was accessible and reasonably local and fun then started shooting sporting more and my scores really improved. The more birds you see the better you can judge them (then smash them to bits ) I don't know how far you are from Bisley in Surrey but if you fancy a go at skeet PM me, i'll be happy to introduce you to it. If you haven't bought an O\U yet what i would say is make sure a gun fits you, unlike cars where you can say I want that one and buy it guns are all different, what fits you may not fit your mate. Try and shoot as many as you can and see how you get on with them, I have a Baikal O\U which is for sale, if you can get to Bisley you are welcome to try it for a couple of rounds. Just enjoy Jon.
