yo all

Well we have waited long enough for the frost to come and promptly the pigeons were down feeding on the rape as they should be.

The only problem was this weekend was the bl***y FOG. It was like pea soup and we couldn't see more than 30 yards.

SATURDAY.

We set up our stall by the river . After shooting 3 ducks and we struggled with just over 20 pigeons and 3 Flasks later decided to pack up & pop down to another stretch of river we have been feeding and shot 7 ducks, 3 pheasants and then went home.

We set off in thick fog and found a couple of hundred feeding pigeons on some more rape fields and 3 shots later they had all gone and did not return.

So we decided sod this for a lark, we would go flushing for the day (try to keep warm as well).

Very nice day walking in the brisk freeeeeeezing temperatures and ended up for the weekend with 10 x ducks,3 pheasants, a Snipe,5 x Magpies and a few pigeons and jackies.

Hope the frost stays for next weekend WITHOUT that bloody PEA-SOUPER.

Dave K

(just thawing out)

:*) :*)

ooops, so sorry folks I have re-read the post and it should have said total for the weekend and as for shooting PHEASANTS; we ONLY shoot them 6 days a week & NEVER on a SUNDAY.

POST DULY EDITED....

Apologies once again.

If this is ture I would edit this post and deny all knowlegde of being out on a sunday cos the taking of game ie PHEASANTS is illegal in the UK (Certainly England Scotland & Wales) on a Sunday

Oh this is interesting, I've always thought Top G to be a proffessional guide?? However it is obvious that a lot of people are ignorant of the laws and Etiquette of our beloved pastimes.

Maybe one of our experts could clear all these issues up including the Differences between Scotland. NI and England and Wales, and the taking of Game and Wildfowl on a Sunday.

Furthermore; Ref DAZZA

No wildfowl may be shot in the following counties on Sunday because orders prohibiting it were made under the Protection of Birds Act 1954: Anglesey, Brecknock, Caernarvon, Camarthen, Cardigan, Cornwall, Denbigh, Devon, Doncaster, Glamorgan, Great Yarmouth County Borough, Isle of Ely, Lees County Borough, Merioneth, Norfolk, Pembroke, Somerset, North and West Ridings of Yorkshire.

and;

The prohibition under the Protection of Birds Act 1954 refer to a season, this season did not include Sundays, Sundays then became seasonally prohibited, not banned. The general licence removes the seasonality of the shooting and in any case takes precedent as a special licence.

That is to say: Canada geese can be shot, on Sundays, anywhere in England, so long as they are taken under the criteria set out in the licence.

As we ALL know?

yo hammy . we are not professional guides; just plain old pest controllers who enjoy shooting and days out in the countryside and put A LOT OF EFFORT into our days to maximise our control of pests for the farmers who have allowed us to walk & manage their land.

We enjoy our sport and especially the looks of GLEE on the O.A.P's & friends who are given the quarry for FREE to enjoy a hearty meal and save any wastage of what we shoot.

and I personally deliver it to their doorsteps.

"MEALS ON WHEELS TOPGUN" , they call me

Country Estate,

Check up on the Laws in Scotland. I may be wrong, I have been before and shall be again, but in Scotland Pheasants can be Legally shot on a Sunday, I am not neccessarily advocating, but just my undertstanding and I would be very interested to know?? Mark Robson help us out here??

LB & TG,

I concur with your sentiments, I fully understand the pleasure some of the more mature community, who once enjoyed similar pastimes enjoy a bit of Game or a Doo in the Feather, and it always gives me pleasure to give and do so on the occasions I can.
