Ferretboy111
Hello everyone, just drove down at lunch time and watched 300 pigeons land on a small field of rape out the back of my friends farm, we scared them off it and they landed into the next field which is beet stubble, then we scared them off it and they landed on the other side of the beet stubble, we have shot over the beet a couple of times before and had some luck. we are planning to shoot on sunday, do u think we should shoot over the rape and put bags or some other devise on the other field to stop them going to it, or do you think tat will scare them right away from the area? Catamong
Hello Ferret, Welcome to the forum, yes your idea is sound, i've often done it myself, and it's worth the effort, and no, it won't scare the birds away from your chosen field. Let us all know how your day goes. Double H P.S. - More people will reply to your posts if you give a bit more info about yourself, i.e. where abouts in the UK are you? Ferretboy111
Oh right sorry, i live in suffolk, am a game keeper and doing A levels, shooting is what i do constantly. We watched the field again today and noticed tat today nothing was on it, a few were on the beet and some were on another rape field furhter up the meadow, do u think its worth trying to bag all the fields we see them on? apart from the one we want to shoot, cos i can just see us setting up on the rape field and them going to other rape field. we cant split because my mate is new to shooting and doesnt have anything, im the one with all the gear. any other tricks to keep them off the field, other than bagging? Catamong
Ferret, Some people put out rope bangers to keep them moving, these can be bought from most good agricultural dealers, the best way is to link up with other guns in the area to ensure that all fields are covered. Easier said than done, with the massive acreages grown these days. Double H P.S. - Fill in your location under "My Profile" - you might be able to meet up with others in Suffolk.
