there x breeds, i adlib feed from day one, my sows are like buffalos, actuley there to fat cutting them down cos im not getting them in pig as quick as i should be, weaned off sow at three to four weeks then adlibed fed for a further 18 to 20 weeks, i used to do bed and breakfast for other people they were all gone in 20 to 22 weeks from 7 kilo to 100 kilo, all went for bacon, the sows is back in season with in 5 days of weaning, last 2 sows were served within 2 days, just started serving some gilts i bred, could sell you some breeding gilts if you wanted.

Wow 100 kgs in 22 weeks that is fast. I have just sent some Cornish Blacks off, dead weight of about 70 - 75 kgs but mine were about 10 months old. I do myself prefer a slower growing pig, i think it give a better tasting meat.

But if i was doing it for the money then maybe a faster commercial pig would be better. I am lucky my pigs sell very well, but they are more expensive than yours only reason they take a lot longer to get to the right age.

Good luck with the sale, nothing better than good roast pork.

hiya steve, Are the pigs good for bacon ? because im thinking of curing the legs and middle for bacon are they free range ? and what have they been fed on ? cheers for now Gary

they free range round there pen if thats any good, there fed on pellets , adlib fed never run out of food there bred of bacon pigs, i used to fatten for some body else upto a thousand at a time, your not far away come and pick one and take it home, or i could get it killed at the abotoir and left whole for you to cut up and cure your self, cheers,

I guess that means that they are not free range and they are fed the standard fattening pellets. I see now why they only take 20 weeks to slaughtering weight.
