mossy835
you could shoot when you like, with no houses about and nobody to up set.i think the rule is you cant shoot on more then 28 days a years, with out planning permission.
RC45
I was told that the requirement was about 270 yards in length from where you stand. I am sure someone else will know for definate.. Phil

RC45
Is a square acre 270 yards long??? I have 1.26 acre and at its longest it is about 130 yards by 87 yards, so I would not have the distance. This would require permission from my neighbour as the shot would probably fall on his land. poontang
I was told that the requirement was about 270 yards in length from where you stand. Phil so the minimum would be an acre?alan That would depend on the width of your garden. A rough guide is 70x70 yards to an acre.
RC45
But the question is: would an acre be big enough? I was told NOT!

Phil Yup thats right, you need a 270 yard/300m fallout zone in the direction your shooting in, shaun
HDAV
you need a 270 yard/300m fallout zone in the direction your shooting in, 270 yards is 246.888m and 300yards is 274.32m 300m to be on the safe side! BTW i thought the 28 days only applied to visiting shooters, i.e. paid for and club shoots (not land owners?)
RC45
Thanks for that. I am sure I read somewhere, 6 acres would be enough to have a decent clay shoot. I am sure the 28 days only counts if you charge. Your only other problem is neighbours. Phil

RC45
Another thought. Clay traps are highly valued on the black market, so chain it to a big tree. Phil

Phil Its on a spare tyre on the back of the van, and if anyone can get into our secure barn in less than a few hours I'll eat my shorts..even ******. On the van so we can drive it about avoiding longer crops.... and change the angle of fire.

COACH
Half the farms in the country have a trap or two to play with, so go for it on the farm. Watch out for rights of way and public foot paths, bridleways etc, etc on a small shoot. Scaring animals is a nightmare if you do that. 300yds of fallout zone for the lead. Must not land on any land but your own without permission. Section 11(6) certificate if you have any one shooting without a SGC. OR section 11(5) unless you own or occupy the land and they use your gun in your presents. Noise, annoying the neighbours. The care and safety of trespassers and unauthorized visitors is your responsibility. 28 day rules on farmland, any more needs planning permission, also any permanent fixtures. A very good, cheap book I would recommend is SPORTING SHOOTING and the LAW by David Frost. You can buy it from the BASC web site.
kyska
Thanks for that, I'm pretty well covered really, no neighbours really, and I could shoot a rifle into the air and it'd land on our land. Are you saying I still have to stick to 28 days shooting even if I have my mobile trap wagon? COACH
I`m afraid so. Funny thing is you can shoot rabbits/pigeons etc every day but not clays. My friend was going to set up a clay shoot but decided not to because he could only do it for the 28 days on his own land. I have another friend that has done it and he does it every other week with about 30 mates, me included. If you go ahead with it, get together with a good pub and do a regular night with the shoot. All go to the pub and have a steak for about £10. Tell the pub that`s what you will pay because there are so many of you and no more and charge every one £10 for a shoot to cover clays. Fantastic day out for £20. It will be very popular as we already do it.
