gwb
Hi Going to Devon in August Staying near Dawlish/Starcross and looking for a shoot. Most of what ive found is corporate stuff, basically Im looking for somewhere to turn up and hire a gun and shoot a quick round of sporting most days.Ill be shooting on my own I have found Ashcombe and was wondering if anyone can give their opinion on the ground, or know of any others. cheers
wymberley
Hi, Except that I'm not sure about the gun hire, give them a bell, Ashcombe is on your doorstep and you'll be well pleased. If I'm wrong, meet me in the Holly Tree in Exmouth and I'll buy the beer! Cheers

RogerTheCat
I phoned them about a week ago as I am planning to take a mate there to have a go at shooting clays. They do gun hire although I can not remember the cost. It may have been £10 but I am not sure. They have a sporting layout which is what i enjoy. I do not know what else they have as I did not ask. Finally the price worked out about 22p a clay
MartynGT4
Hi, It's a good ground for sure, shot there many times. The sporting layout is challenging, possibly doesn't change often enough but they'll always have a good mix on. Also have a good compact layout and skeet as well. The staff are friendly, prices are reasonable and it's in a nice part of the country, can't ask for much more really. They do hire guns, although they only have ultalights which can be a bit harsh on the shoulder for some. If you're staying in Devon for a while, why not take your own gun and ask the guys at Ashcombe to store it for you, haven't needed to myself but I'd be surprised if they wouldn't help you out etc. Enjoy

Just need to persuade one o fthe kids to come along and push the buttons.

The other option is to take yours but to take the necessary steps to keep it secure. I take mine down to devon on weekends away regularly and secure it very well with two chamber locks amongst other things. Discussed the exact steps I take with the FEO and he was quite happy :-)

So the only option would be to leave it in its case and padlock the case in the boot of the car whilst keeping the forend. seperate but that would then mean taking the gun wherever we are going when out and about

Cheers from sunny Exmouth.
maddog546
Ashcombe is a great set up just a shame its 80 mies away from me,but its worth the trip up. The sporting set up is a good varied round especially the midi and mini trap at the top,if you think about them you'll be behind em. I think the variety of disiplines is good as being fairly new to clay shooting it gives you a chance to try something different. Enjoy it,the weathers abit pants at the moment so take a coat.
