Oh My delight....

Recommended Posts

My own springer had four pups the christmas gone by, I sold three and kept one(I kept him because he was the nicest looking and the healthiest in my opinion) Anyway from just a few weeks old he was retrieving anything and I was very happy with him, he stopped when I told him and came to me when I asked, he was going to be a great dog I taught. One day I brought him along the river bank and he just wasn't retrieving properly he just diddn't seem to be bothered and I got very thick with him and I give him a few slaps(How I was to regret this) I normally never hit my dogs, but you no some days when your having a **** day and the dog just adds to your misery and you lose it a bit. So after that incident he wouldnt retrieve anything for me for about 2 months I got very annoyed with him and I was a bit resinged to the fact that maybe he just wasnt meant to be a hunting dog and he was just going to be a house pet. Now I'm only seventeen. I decided from my opinion that I shouldnt let him go to waste and that I had to find away around the problem so for about 3 months I just done the baisc sitting and coming back commands and he was happy doing that, I said to myself I was never going to get angry with him no matter what he done and I just tried to be very positive with him always playing and fooling around with him, I had come to realise he was a very emotional dog. Then one day last week I felt we had really bonded so I said I'll try a bit of retrieving and see what happens not really concerned about the result but deep down I was hoping he'd do it right. So on a really wet day I brought him down to the river and I had a stick in hand I threw it in the water and he went straight for it brought it back no fuss(Delighted) I tried it again a few more times same result, I done a few throws on land aswell and he brought it back every time without fuss, every time I've done it with him since he been great aswell, oh my delight. Just taught I'd share the best experience I've had in my hunting life so far.

as a rule though if thing's are'nt going right i just pack up and put them away.i can also say i can count on one hand the time's i've hit my dog's and in my opinion it's still too many.

I would have thought being seventeen and knowing everything there is to know you would have known that hitting a dog doesn't get you anywhere.

Still I hope you never lay a finger on a dog again, and if you do then someone visits it back on you tenfold.

MC Who said I knew everything? Now don't get me wrong I didn't abuse him, it was only a few little slaps. Thanks for your very constructive reply MC(NOT)
