Stokoe
I keep gettin told about a particular beaters tool that makes a loud clicking noise when twisted but I can't find one anywhere to buy!! Does anyone know what they're called and where they can be purchased. "beaters clicking thing" isn't exactly the most precise google search. Thanks

Stokoe
Aaaah is that what it is!? Where can I buy one from that's suitable for a bit of rough shooting? Thanks for the help
henry d
If you are rough shooting you don`t need it, if you are beating then you don`t need it. Rough shooting you need a dog, beating you need a stick and a dog (partridge and grouse, possibly excepted as flags are better)
Hucky
One of our beaters uses something like this, but his is home made from ply wood and string as the hinges -

Fatcatsplat
Just take a stout stick and tap it on the way round - Football rattle will be a right pain in the '***** to listen to.
Billy.
What's wrong with just making silly noises and hitting your stick on the ground? Personally, I'd be tempted to punch someone who had one of those going off next to me at 9am on a Saturday morning.

Ahahaha, normally I'd completely agree with you, but if it lifts more stuff out of the long grass then I'll tolerate it!!
CZ550Kevlar
I can see it now, Tambourine, rattle, drum, ratchet thing and symbols. They`ll be taking requests, you hum it we`ll play it.
Tug
Tap stick on trees or fence posts, if in the middle of a crop then clap or slap your thigh. Carry a short piece of hazel to tap against your own stick. Something raucous like a rattle can cause all of the birds to panic and run under the crop before flushing at once, not what you want on any day. Redgum
Brass band on the back of a tractor trailer would do the job, especially over rough ground.
