Perrins Side by Side

Well the same mate who got the Franchi pump got a Perrins and Son side by side. It is old and im told it has Demascus Barrels. It has hammers and is a box lock. The stock has been repaired and and the gun is a bit loose but he has been told that can be fixed. When you close it there is a piece on the barrel that locks into the action.

He was told that 12 were made fro the directors of Lee and Perrins of Worcester.

It was originaly a 13 bore.

He took it to a local dealer who offered him £500 as is.

I don't trust them and said I would do some digging but I can't find much.

Does anyone know anything about this gun and is it worth anything?

I don't have any pics

Hi , contact http://www.holtandcompany.co.uk/index.htm , they do valuations for free

I collect Hammerguns , if a dealer has offered him £500 i'm sure it would be worth a lot more , Holts will be able to value it

I have found All guns sold at Holts auctions sell for over estimate

PS can you send me some pics

Does it have an address on the rib ? or an initial before Perrins and son ?

PPS the "piece that locks into the action is called a third bite or if it looks like a head its called a "Dolls head" extention

Its a dolls head one.

I think it's Perrins and Son of Worcester.

Still don't have any pics. I will ask my mate to take some.

Notes

John Perrins appears to have been established in 1834 at College Street.

In 1852 his son became a partner in the business and the firm moved to 4 St Swithin's Lane.

Between 1854 and 1858 they moved to Mealcheapen Street, and between 1869 and 1878 to 59 Broad Street.

In 1892 they moved to 61 Broad Street. but in that year the business was sold to Herbert E (Edward) Pollard.

An advertisement in 1883 stated "A Genuine Reduction of 20% for Cash on all Best Guns costing over £10." The offer applied to "the ordinary kind and hammerless."

It is possible that John Perrins's son was George Perrins who bought George Kynoch & Co of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. If this is not so, George Perrins may have been the son of Edward Robinson Perrins of Birmingham.

Other Info

The firm is known to have sold all brass cartridges under their own name.
