From memory...

 

There is a screw at the back of the gaurd, but the front has a threaded stud welded to the guard, so you rotate the whole gaurd to tighten and then put the rear screw in. I haven't owned a 686 for about 10 years at least so I hope that is about right, if not or you don't get the answer here I would get it into a decent gunsmith for advice.

 

p.s. If you look up you will see 'My Controls' go in there and fill in your location details when you get a second
