£15000 to spend

Lets say you had £15,000 to spend on a new 4x4.

 

What would be top of your list?

 

Im mainly concerned about reliability, half decent MPG (high 20's) on road comfort and a half decent off road ability.

 

Discovery 3 has taken my attention however some reliability horror stories have put me off.

If you do 95% of your miles on the road, then get the Subaru Forrester - the fast one.

 

If it's more like 60/40 on road off road, the get the Disco.

Suzuki Jimny? Brand new, and 7k change out of the 15k. Free haircuts for life, and high 30's mpg?

 

I dont own one but they seem quite popular among the shooting masses at the moment. I have a second truck for shooting so I aint too worried about mpg.

if your spending that kind of money, 1st choice has to be a mercedes ml, I have one (2004), 28-32 mpg on the dunlops 37000mls, don't have a mpg figure yet for the AT2's, fantastic on road, great of road, it suprises a lot of people how good it actualy performs, has pulled out of situations where other 4x4 have been struggling for traction, only down side is perhaps ground clearance but that as yet has not been a problem for the 4 years I've had it, my toyota land cruiser friend is well impressed with the ride, noise and comfort levels, so much so think he's getting one next

At the moment i would say Pick up, i say at the moment as they are still on comercial tax, you can chuck as muck poop in the back as you like and still have a reasonable standard of shall we say smell in the rest of the vehicle. You should get the MPG your after You should get a 2year old Hilux for that price

Land Rover Freelander 2 I bought mine last march & can not fault it during the heavy snow we have had this winter it has been fantastic & it does 33/35mpg. take one out for a test drive you will be impressed trust me.

Horror stories on D3 reliability all true. I have one, it's been a pain in the **** but its a beautiful machine, so much better looking and driving than the landbruiser too.

Love my D2 V8 with LPG, had no end of trouble with it, but still love it gets me from a to b on the farm so im happy! + can live with the niggles!!

the Mercedes ML is still the best choice of all those posted, it could only be bettered by a range rover and that would have a good chance of not being to clever in this price bracket.
