I don,t mean Pigeon Guides, but people that shoot pigeons as a full-time occupation. I would think its difficult to earn a living doing this. Of course if you had an eatery that specialized in pigeon based meals, then the mark up would be enough to make it worthwhile shooting them! Anybody selling Pigeonburgers? highdowns hunter Posted April 9, 2003 Report Share Posted April 9, 2003 It wouldnt be a bad idea to start up a factory making pigeon nibbles for to sell in pubs I had some ostrich yesterday it was from south africa It was cut into strips like beef jerky and had added spices and herbs. We get 10p for frozen and 15p for fresh birds and have to travel 30miles to deliver them. Our local outlet stopped taking them a couple of years ago as he said it was not worthwhile. supergame Posted April 9, 2003 Report Share Posted April 9, 2003 I manage to get 50p per pigeon at the local pubs. These are breasted and put in resealable bags. Selling them certainly covers my cartridge cost. One winter when work I was struggling to work because of the weather I sold all the pigeons I shot, had I not I couldn't of shot every week. If pigeons could be sold for a better return, that might bring back the professional, or semi professional pigeon shooters. If you could shoot an average of 500 birds a week, sell them for 50p each, deduct your expenses,you would clear £100,then win the lottery and I think it would be possible to turn "pro". rjimmer Posted April 13, 2003 Report Share Posted April 13, 2003 I've never sold a pigeon in my life, mainly because I have never shot that many that someone in the family couldn't eat them. I read once that pigeon meat is one of the most indigestable. We have a club rule that we don't sell any ducks we shoot on the clubs area. It is a rich sport, same crowd as horse racing. One of them won a Fabri for dropping 25 birds straight in the circle. Pigeon Pieman Posted April 26, 2003 Report Share Posted April 26, 2003 I 'donate' mine to the local WI in our village. In return I get 20 bottles of good wine at Christmas. Everybody is happy - especially Mrs Pieman!! Managed to sell our last big bag - 350+ in two days - to a local dealer for 50p each.
