i was walking through my shoot today and found some old rabbit snares. I was wondering if they are illegal they was not set they were just under some old branches what i had to move

It is still legal to use snares for vermin, although nowadays they are viewed more as a method of holding rabbits, for example, rather than a way of killing them.

The newer snares have a stop device on them which helps to prevent accidental tethering by the leg,of deer , foxes etc. However discretion should always be used when setting them.

Depends on the situation really.Have used them in the past where I couldn't ferret or get close enough to shoot, but having to check them on a daily basis can be a bind, especially when the days are shorter.

They're only a last resort tool for me.

Avoid placing them anywhere the public(and their dogs) may venture to spare yourself hassle.
