stirky
The reason for this post is i have friends that homeload for their rifles. one says i would be better using 50 to 70gr bullets the other says i would be better with 87gr vmax upto 100gr soft points, for my foxing round . I have had my rifle measured upto the lands so i know where to seat the bullet to the ogive, (as a starting point) but before i get any powder/bullets i wanted info on which would be the better weight to use with that twist. Thanks for the offer john5 but i would rather give that a miss and know what i am shooting. PS my friend is not imaginary, i see him every time i look in the mirror Edited March 28, 2006 by stirky
Gemini
Stirky, I never go below 70grn V-max for my .243 Tikka. I use those for fox and 100 grn soft-nosed partitions for deer. It is nigh-on impossible to get 50 grn bullets to seat anywhere near the rifling on the Tikka, and I also find the 70-100grn bullets to be more accurate because of this. Guest john5
hey john , the loads i was going to sujest would be "proven" not just "made up" i am well aware of the consequences of "chuck it and see" as an example , 70grn ballistic tip (hornaday) 36grn of hodgden 4895 powder , biuld up from there , your rifle may do better with vitovori powder, and a different type of bullet, well , if you need a hand let me know , the offer still stands ,. and having a tika "you should" expect good accuracy, john
stirky
cheers for that john, i am thinking along the lines of using 87gr vmax and poss vitt 160. ps just put some picks of the 8 bore on wildfowling forum. AND cheers to gemini for that info. Edited March 28, 2006 by stirky
Guest john5
i will have a look ,,,,,,,,,,, when you go to try your rifle, take a bench ,a comfortable chair, micrometer , various powders and bulletts, you and the rifle will settle down nicely, john
