Puppy socialisation classes are a real laugh, when I took Merlin there were 2 other springers there. all they did for an hour was roll about the floor playfighting. It looked like a Tom and Jerry cartoon.

Have fun both of you.

Cheers

Snap Old Rooster! Got the 1st puppy socialisation class tonight at the local vets, only 8 days after his second jab but the vet said there wouldn't be a problem. So we'll be starting getting out and about now.

About a week after the second jab should be OK innit ?

Guess if you are goinmg socialising rather than just walking alone its more important ?

Ant, I have a English cocker pup and I'm guessing OR's pup is an English springer.

OR, yeh I think you're right about the jabs. I've had him have a dander around the fields and woods on my permissions a few times where I know there are no other dogs and associated mess, but I've avoided the more local walking routes (I stay in a town) until now, just in case.

As for last night, the socialisation class was interesting enough. One of the vet practice nurses takes "course" and explained about vaccinations, microchipping, worming, etc. Next week I think she said she'll do a bit about teeth/health care, then presumably grooming and other stuff but it's primarily about socialisation.

Rogan was the smallest and youngest there and started off investigating the room rather than the other dogs but after a while had a bit of a play thinking he was the boy. (Mostly jumping on the others when they were distracted). After a bit the tail went down though, when he got chased by the other pups.

I would say he was less wild - less barking, pulling, yelping - than most of the others but perhaps he was feeling a bit intimidated or it's just his age.

There were quite a few kids there and they played with the dogs as well (useful as I only have the odd visit from friends kids and the niece and nephew).

We got another free puppy pack from the vets which has the usual sample of foods and vouchers, this time from ProPlan, the first pack was Pedigree. Do the vets get these free from the producers/suppliers?

Anyway, there you go - puppy class summary for anyone who hasn't been.
