Does all depend on your budget. If you can afford it then I completely agree with the previous reply!

I've just swapped my SAK for a very expesnive LEI. A bit smaller, no quieter! You have to live with the sonic crack of the HMR and thats all there is to it.

CZ is a lovely looking version, I have the Savage thumbhole which I highly recommend and would probably only consider swapping that for an Annie!

To be honest I think anybody on a budget should go for a CZ as it gives you more money to spend on a scope. Mod wise a Sak is as good as any. Scopes, well the Bushnell Elites, MTC Mamba's etc are good enough. I really wouldn't go any cheaper than that unless you have to and I certainly wouldn't buy an Anschutz and stick a Hawke on it! I'd rather have a CZ with a S&B on it for the same money as you'll do a lot better with it.

CZ 455 17HMR 16" VARMINT thumbhole with a DM80 mod, excellent for the price and the accuracy

I have previously used the Anshuntz thumbhole which made me buy the CZ,

as for optics its all about the clarity and price you can afford.

but either way the CZ is right for the price ,why pay more than you have to :)

im on to my 4th cz but have had anschutz in the past. There is a annie 1517 in the private sales add for £375 that is the best bargain ive seen for ages. im not nocking mine or anyone elses cz but the annie at that price i would jump on his bones!!

i think you will find that most 17hmr's on the market will shoot almost the same as each other. (providing they are unmolested)

the thing you have to do is find the one you like the feel of and what budget you have to support your wants,

i love CZ's but i own a sako quad, i like the look of an Anny but i can't afford one. i like to think that having my money to spend again i would have gone with a CZ and some better glass.

so now when i shop its like this.

1, cost of the rifle and mags

2, cost of the scope and mounts.

3, usability as a hunting rifle not a thing to spend all night rubbing it better after dinking it.

and finally, the cost to run it like i want too.

bob.

what ever you choose after all is your,s and your,s alone.

This should be pretty much what you are after then. My newish CZ455 17hmr 20" barrel not the usual 16" with a Nikko Sterling Nighteater scope ontop and a Wildcat Whisper mod up front. Only 2" longer than my old 16" hmr with a sak mod on it. Went for the varmit this time as although they do weigh a bit more (dosen't matter when 99% of my shooting is done from the Landy) but in my opinion they look alot nicer.

blimey a photo of a gun that someone hasn't taken to bed with them

HMR's you won't go wrong with a 452 or the newer 455 CZ its all about how deep your pockets are gun choice. Everything goes bang unless its a hatstand after that you come down to looks and build quality and general feel. You can get more refined than CZ's but they are hard to beat as an accurate well made tool

OK let's all whip out the gun porn, here's some hot twins:

I bought a CZ452 in .22LR as my first gun and when the HMR came along I could see no reason to not stick with CZ. Went for the longer barrel as I like to take the mod off the HMR when in it's the cabinet and the 16" would fall over... that and it saved me £50 and I use the 16" LR mainly for lamping.

Scope wise, they both have different scopes now to the MAP Pro on the LR and the Endurance 30IR on the HMR but they did the job fine.

Well.. this is my first CZ, and I've been somewhat impressed.

The only difference I see in spending out on the likes of an Anschutz is the smoothness out of the box, in relation to the bolt travel and probably a better factory trigger.

The CZ's do "wear" in to become much more user friendly, and obviously a trigger kit is small money (£13)

One thing that's certain is that there is nothing in them in terms of accuracy.
