Chances are your dog is not actually a pedigree Cocker Spaniel.

There is no Cocker Spaniel registered under the name Jumping Jack Lad...there is however an English Springer registered under that name and judging by the photo in the above post(post#49), it could well be him!

I'm guessing you have a copy of both dam and sires pedigree's and not one for your pup?

I'm also guessing all or most of the FTCh's are in the dams pedigree.

Nice pup all the same, strong looking legs.

Thanks for that link to the kennel club, you are actually correct, there was a typo on my part regarding a missing letter from the name and a punctuation mark in the sires name, So i would like to personally thank you for pointing it out,and just in case any one else would like to double check, its actually spelt,

Jumping jack's lad.

I have just visited the site and put the information in that i have on the pups pedigree certificate given to me regarding kennel club names and their registered numbers, the site indicates that both parents are in fact registered as :

Cocker Spaniels

I am perfectly happy with this , and i hope you are as well.

And as for the ftch in the puppies history, they are spilt pretty evenly between the 2 parents, 13 for one, 12 for the other, that should stop the guessing.

Glad to hear it, and glad to of been some help to you. It would have been a shame if you had continued to train the dog up, decided at some stage to have a go at trialing your dog, only to find out later that what you had was a sprocker and you were unable to trial it.

The information you gave regarding the sire's name was incorrect but it's good that you have since recognised your mistake and corrected it.

Good luck.

Edited to add- I make it 11 on the the dams side, 5 generations?

  • 3 weeks later...

This is Meg (Nutmeg)- my new best friend. She is now 9 weeks old and was out Bam Bam (Paddypower999's chocolate bitch on here) and the Sire is FTCH Mallowdale Ken.

She's settled in really well, seems really bright and intellegent. Following alot of advice on here, she has picked up housetraining very quickly as well as some really basic fun obediance. Looking forward to later on this summer to start some proper training with her.

Not sure whether this will work, but does anyone else's cocker do this for fun?

Jet is 4 months now, very very bright and learns very quickly but is utterly bonkers and mad as a box of frogs. Makes my terrier seem really laid back!

Sorry for poor quality video.

This is a short go at this...he often does it for a couple of minutes!

If it were mine I would stop it ASAP its not a good thing for the dog to learn if he is doing this for Attention-seeking, Boredom or Anxiety ?

There is also a chance a medical condition could be the cause or caused if not sorted ASAP

Edit

You say he does it for 2 minutes some times what do you do about this ?

I think 2 min is actually a big exaggeration, sorry. the video is a typical example.

He only does this when he is playing with us or my terrier after running around at full speed in looney mode (and he has probabaly only done this about 5 or 6 times just happened to catch this on video) - I don't think he is bored or lacking attention as my girlfriend is with both dogs all day and they are rarely left and I would be surprised if he is anxious as he has been very well socialised and had not shown fear of anything so far.

The two of them are rolling about wrestling as I write this.

Thank you for the concern and I will certainly keep a close eye on this behaviour.
