Jackdaws

I have shot many jackdaws in my garden in the past and they are getting too clever to come down for bread now. Could anyone suggest another bait that will bring them down and keep them occupied long enough for me to get a shot off at them.

I doubt that a different bait will help. You've just educated the local population. You can't blame them for being a bit wary if every time they drop in for a snack you have a pop at them.

 

You might want to try pre baiting. Keep feeding the bread but......and this is the hard part, don't shoot them When they are feeding confidently you can start to teach them about guns again

I hit them so hard last year...... shot loads, they now fly around my farm, litterally flying the perimeter and won't come in I even bent the tv ariel with one shot. Missus and kid now complain they can't get channel 4 or 5 properly

Last year I was helping my dad keep pigeons off a local veg farm. Everytime I was down there I noticed a flightline of Jackdaws across the corner of one of the fields, coming from an old castle ruin, so one day I decided to set up there. They cept coming all day, I was using the dead birds as decoys and as the numbers mounted up the birds were getting more and more confident. In the end you could stand out in the open and they were'nt paying any notice. I ended up with 80! One thing i have noticed this year is they won't fly on that same flightline anymore.

Try building a makeshift nest on the ground in view of the birds.

then put a couple of eggs in it from the fridge, make sure one is broken open with the contents clearly visible.

This has certainly worked for me in the past.
