njc110381
I know we've got a few decent mechanics on here so here goes... My Ranger has developed a weird whistling/metallic noise when accelerating. It started a few weeks ago and was only doing it after a fairly long run down hill where I didn't use any throttle for perhaps half a mile. Then when I got to the bottom and pulled off from a roundabout it revved up to about 2000rpm (about where the turbo kicks in) and started to screach? Through first and second it did it, then it went away again until the next time I did a long run without throttle. It doesn't last and seems like it's just needing to clear something with some throttle and then it's fine? It seems to be getting more regular. Sometimes it does it after I've slowed down for a speed hump or someone turning. I've read all sorts of things non turbo related that it could be but deep down because of the noise starting as the turbo boosts I can't help but think that is on the way out? Any suggestions? gixer1
Check all the piping to/from the Intercooler, heard some weird noises caused by wind! although usually there is a loss of power if an intercooler/turbo hose goes...
mfletch
After that check the fan belts for tightness and wear
