wymberley
Some advice please, Guys. I can't answer for its first 12,000 miles, but since I've had the Mazda I haven't thrashed it and the front tyres may just make 15k. Currently fitted are Yokohamas. I'm looking for something with a higher mileage life without sacrificing too much (I know something will have to give) of everything - fuel, performance, etc - else. I'm prepared to pay if it's economically viable. Any ideas, anyone? Cheers, Phil
sandspider
Not sure about MX5s, but Falken tyres are recommended as a combination of good handling, lasting well and a reasonable price for Porsche 944s!
gixer1
I've had Bridgestone potenza's on 2 mitsi evo's and my current BM and rate them highly, they grip as well as Michelin pilot sports, are cheaper and last about 30% longer from what I've seen, and they are extremely predictable before they start to slide. Browning 425 clay hunter
Thumbs up for the potenzas for me
Chr15j
Yokohamas are a very soft compound and thus won't last long. Pirellis are great, as are bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear. I personally would contact dealer and check what is recommended as chances are they will be best (at least better than yokos)
wymberley
Thanks, Guys. I was leaning towards the Bridgestone but at my age, it's more sedate than sporty I'm afraid (doesn't mean one can't have a little dabble now and again though!) and was also looking at the Dunlop Fast Response following a load of positive reviews on the wear rate. Had a word with my usual tyre chappie and for me with the wear bias, he recommended them. Job done.

Don't you just hate that, "'ere, mate, you'd better have a look at this", call when the car is in the garage for something else entirely? I've had the car for 2,500 miles, now at 13,800 and when bought it had a service and 1st MoT. No way was either done properly. The inside of both front discs are as rough as a bag of chips and the pads virtually non existant. I would estimate braking efficiency at somewhere about 40%. Let the row begin! For you west country chaps, these are the same dealers that when I blew the centre diff/prop shaft oil seal with oil spraying everywhere on the Ranger, they thought they'd cure it by changing the filler plug crush washer. Vosp***. Edited November 24, 2011 by wymberley
al4x
That wear rate sounds about right. My missus does about 10k to a pair of michelins but she does drive her one like she stole it. Usually the offset you have is the slower they wear the harder they are which you notice most over winter. Though you do have to be brave or foolish to take one out if its snowing or icy

The Mazda ain't going anywhere; I'll bet a pound to a pinch of snuff that the pistons are seized in the fixed cylinders. I've got my local branch of the multi dealership from whence it came chatting to their Mazda colleagues to see if they'll let them sort it as it's not really a model specific problem. Vosp***. OK, we've had the sharp stick/poke in eye bit. The Mazda service/Ranger oil seal fiasco were Exeter branches. Took the latest problem to the Exmouth branch, "we'll speak to Exeter and see if they'll let us have a look. Can you bring it in on Monday?" Phone rang about an hour ago, couldn't believe it, new discs and pads and no argument. Well done Vospers of Exmouth!
