Hello there bode, dont worry about training quite yet, just bond with the dog for a couple of months dont forget you've got a cocker and you got alot of hair pulling to do before long so bond as much as you can but make sure its just you that bonds with him ,cheers butt.

thanks four info people but only asking queston because reading about on net some people start introducing noises at a earley age (under 10 weeks) like i said at work and dark when i get in can only be there for one feed time and beleave it is good time to start introduceing bangs (from a good distance ) sorry for sounding a bit dum but like i said first time at training? i beleave the starfire cd can help me because introduces sounds graduly :hmm:

fella you don't want to rush your wee pup ! start him off with noises from a distance, take him to clay shoots and keep him in the boot for a few times then after a while let him keepin him on a lead, walk him away from the noise and slowly bring him back towards the shootin but not too close too soon, Slowly but surely and build ALL trainin up slowly.

Get to know your pup first. If he is a bold pup just light clapping of hands etc rattling of his food bowl etc is enough to start with.If he looks scared cut noise down.Take him to meet people get him socialised first. When i start to get mine used to gunfire 6months plus but earlier if i think pup is up to it.I get a mate to stand 100y + with 410 i get the dog doing something he enjoys' then get mate to fire.

usually the dog does not even notice shot. Then if dog ok carry on 10 to 20 closer then same as before if ok then a couple more shots at 80 yards then stop if ok.Repeat every other day bringing shot closer bit by bit. But always see how you dog is coping.

Later when dog is having no probs you can start getting him to drop to shot.

The first 6 months is spent on stop whistle, retrieving, hunting quartering, etc.Dont rush to the bang bit or you will soon have a gun shy

dog on your hands. :good:

Keep up the good work bud and good luck.

It's easier to train a dog than it is to be a consistantly bad speller! You make me and DM look good!

All the best.
