hi,

looking for a 4x4 and have just passed and im into my shooting alot. any ideas? need cheapish insurance aswell

NO CHANCE OF A 4X4 MATE! unless your minted...when i was 17,7 years ago 3rd party fire and theft on my 1.6 escort was £2000! id definitely expect to pay something like now if id just passed probably a lot more!

don't forget they cost more to tax,run and maintain aswell decent off road tyres are expensive to-definitley not an ideal first car.

Not true!

It was cheaper for me on my mums old clapped out Ford Maverick SWB 2.4 than it is for me in my hairdressers 1.2 Clio. Both policies were with Aviva.

It is true that I payed 2000 on a escort third party, obviously once you get in the realms of old ****heaps it may be cheaper and that's not exactly what I'm saying I bet the maverick is more money to run though isn,t it!

And obviously if you get insured on your MUMS car it will be cheaper than getting on your own.its completely different.

This is the thing, running costs including MOTs & fuel soon add up on an older, bigger motor. Thankfully the scrappage scheme made sense in 2009 and that old hunk chipped 3 grand off the cost of a new chav mobile. For a while I was on the mothers policy for both cars and it was cheaper on the Ford.

However, I'm on my own policy for the Clio now it is still more expensive than the quotes I had for my own policy on the Ford. the way a high street insurance broker explained it to me was quite simple, not many 17 year old lads smash up in Ford Mavericks, but loads destroy Clios/Corsas/Polos/Saxos so they come with a premium, even when they have tiny power.
