TGEvans
Hi guys. never owned a semi before but am looking into one soon enough possibly! just a few questions though. How much more maintenance do they require? Are they simple enough to maintain or do you need gun smiths to do the work? Any other info you may seem necessary welcomed. Thinking a Remington 1100 or something similar. Im more of an if it works use it kind of guy, dont want to spend too much cash. Second hand purchase more than likely. Tim. oscarsdad
Maintenance is not difficult and certainly does not need a gunsmith. Gas operated or inertia, both relatively simple to strip and clean.

ciaran
Very easy once you get to grips with it... Loads of videos on the internet showing you how to strip semi autos down... I would advise beretta or something along those lines... Apparently they are easy looked after... Good Luck tho...

Pointer
What's your budget ?
Dekers
They take a LOT more looking after than a SBS or O/U. Don't let anyone tell you different, and you NEED to keep them clean. You don't need a gunsmith but you do need a modicum of DIY skills and the ability to follow pics/instructions in the manual, it isn't rocket science! Just the same, I have had semis since 1989 and love them, but I do hate the cleaning!
TGEvans
Not exactly sure budget wise. Was thinking around the £400 mark? Thanks for the info so far guys, T.
Sx3 clay breaker
Most semis are really simplle most are tool free disassembly at most all you need is a punch to take the trigger group out The 1100 is bloody heavy if it's for a field gun your after you will have arms like pop eye but don't get wrong they are lovely gun to shoot a little more complicated to strip down but when you do it once its like riding a bike check out YouTube for strip down of different guns and see which looks most comfortable for you hopes this helps Ps the sx3 is really really simple Rgds scott Edited February 3, 2012 by Sx3 clay breaker
Pointer
Semis are excellent for shooting from a hide or wildfowling. It is all personal choice though. I have a couple of semis, but the one that sees the most light of day is a Hatsan Escort, cheap and cheerfull and takes loads of abuse. That said there are plenty out there with a budget of £400, check out Guntrader for a look see.
Farmer-of-the-Futre
I would definatley go for a second hand beretta from the 'a300' series. Just keep them clean and they will cycle fine and last for a very long time i enjoy cleaning our guns. I get some sort of satisfaction out of it. Haha
EdSolomons
A second hand A3** if you can het one. My old one never struggled and I never cleaned it once! Look horrible inside but kept on trucking! Cleaned it up and sold it the next week for £25 more than I paid for it. They hold value very well. Salop Matt
Other than stripping and cleaning they really don't need much more, am not the most practical guy but I can do it all on mine. cleaning the barrel is straight forward and and the gas parts and trigger mech doesn't need attention every time just periodically and its an ideal job to do on a cold wet day when your stuck in and not shooting ! Richard.Hosgood
Got myself a mk3 hatsan escort last week for peanuts, once you sit down with it in bits it's not so daunting and easy to put back together, cleaning is a diddle too
