I actually think its very hard in certain areas to find somewhere to shoot. I myself have been shooting for a number of years. Mainly air rifles which I have a small permission for. After many days going round farms and asking for use of their land. I have tried every trick and offered everything from cash and booze to free labour. Which has resulted in a long line of no's. I joined this site to look for land yes as I figured it was worth a try. (have realised now it wasn't). Luckily I hung around and have found some very useful tips both to improve my shooting and hopefully my chances of getting land.

I have seen many shooters on here with big permissions in the areas around the Wirral and wish I was as lucky as you guys, I realise this takes time and effort and certainly wouldn't class myself as a freeloader.

Dan

thanks for your reply dan but assumptions are sometimes miss calculated for i too envy the very fortunate people who have big permissions around the wirral and believe me i know how hard it has been to come by and keep......you've obviously seen the area i come from and put 2+2 together getting =5 my friend as i travel 160 mile round trip every week for my nearest permission ....which is why i dont understand the "little too far for me mate " brigade...having said that i hope you will persevere and enjoy this hobby as much as i have and hope always will

best regards

john

I joined mainly just to see how others went about pigeon shooting.I like the way some people come up with a way to make things yourself to make it cheaper.

There is a lot of good information on the site which has come in useful at times.

I have met a good few pigeon watch members who i have taken out with me on my permissions.

Some come regular and some i have never seen again because they probably had a poor day. But i have made some very good friends and shooting buddys through pigeon watch.

I joined after googling about SGC application's and PW kept coming up, i have found it very helpful. There are some top people on here (and some ******* too) who offer sound advice and have kindly offerd to allow me on their permission with them. (just not had time yet)

Plus I wanted to know about snap caps and found unanimous support by all on here that they are vital to any good shooter. Not sure why some people put Vaseline on them. Unless it makes them less painful to insert (where I'm not sure). :good::good::no:

To get land to shoot over, plain and simple.

Fairly quickly established that it wasn't going to be quite that easy!

Stayed for the wealth of information, the moments of pure comedy gold and not least for feeling of camaraderie this place engenders.

Not met any other PW'ers as yet, but I'm sure that's only a matter of time, unless I HAVE got it right and everyones avoiding me!!!

It's all Evil Elvis' fault, we go back a long way but had not spoken for a few years for no particular reason. I got into shooting, came on here and spotted his username and location and knew it had to be him. When I saw the picture on his profile with him guzzling the two bottles of beer at once that nailed it, although I was midly disappointed they were some Mexican stuff rather than Duval :)

He has helped me a lot with my shooting and joining here has made me pals with some cracking folks.

Thank-you Pigeonwatch.

To be honest I stumbled accross PW whilst looking for a stirrup pump after I replaced my springer air rifle with a PCP. I'm not into face book, forums and such like and I don't belong to any others, but I had to join to see some of the content and once I was in there was no escape, like the Masons.

I was laid up after surgery (on my clockweights) and decided to do my tax return online. That lasted all of 10 seconds and found PW whilst looking for a gunslip. Was just saying to Bakerboy earlier, it really is a community, great thing to be part of. When things are **** a quick scan through here always lightens the mood, especially if theres Otter / Seal tattoos on show

I was a keen air rifle shooter with decent land but also a criminal record. I spent a lot of time reading loads of forums for details of what my chances were of getting my SGC (and later my FAC too). I joined here because it seemed like one of the better forums with some decent sensible members.

Many of those members have now gone but I still come to PW more than any other forum I'm on. I like it here and without the help of some of the guys on PW I doubt I would have even tried to get my certificates. I came here for help with nothing to offer but now like to offer help to newbies when I can too.

I can sympathise with those that struggle to get permission, fortunately I look out of my house windows in the winter nights with a red filter lamp and have shot up to fifty foxes and more every winter for more years than I can remember.

Why did I join ?, well I have helped many friends get both shotgun an FC certificates on the farm, some are on here.

There are some tidy sensible guys on here, but also some that I wonder how they ever got a certificate.

And as for the one's that sit on here all day and night commenting on every topic ?, where do they find time to go shooting or find permission ?.

But good luck to the genuine guys finding somewhere to go, just persevere.
