Waterproof socks

I was given a pair of Sealskinz waterproof socks today as a free gift form my brother in law.

I haven't had the chance to try them out yet, they have a price tag of £37-00 new.

Does anybody on here use them? Or have ever tried them?

I Personally find wellingtons to be uncomfortable when trekking up and down hill, and find my para boots to be much better.

However the boots aren't 100% waterproof and thought I would give the socks a go.

Could someone share their thought on these 'weird' pieces of kit?

Cheers

The first thing that springs to mind is SWEATY FEET!

That's what I thought, but it states that they are made form a waterproof membrane.

My brother in law runs an outdoor shop you see, and he insisted that they were breathable as well.

Most of the British golfers use them these days apparently :hmm:

they are great, we had them in the regiment (raf reg) they were best for the end of a long days tabbing and wading through streams. Then you take boots off, powder feet, sealskin socks on, wet boots back on. warm dry feet, and your body warmth even starts to dry the boots. Had to tab in them once, on exercise, and feet were sooo damn sweaty, i wouldnt use them to do alot of walking in.

I have a pair ,bought them for the three peaks as trained in in trail boots an then got to fort william and it poured down, was very impressed just your feet do get get cold when your boot is wet .My only negative is my pair are a bit long and so look like a pair of strange stockings gone wrong, but never caused blisters,so get my vote :good:

I Contracted a bone infection back in 06 on the right leg from a cracked heel, a years worth of antibiotics and 2 operations 9 weeks in hospital 9 months in plaster or a walking boot then had to have the leg off in January 08. Damaged the left ankle in 2010 got a condition called CHARCOT foot where all the bones go soft and crumble away ,lost the left one back last July last year , now got two prosthetic legs and still shooting and fishing as normal as possible but hence no need for waterproof socks

Hats off to Deershooter, that's a truly positive attitude and to be commended.

Sealskinz socks are very good. Have used them on the marsh this winter and have to say that while my feet have got cold, they never got cold to the point of numbness...which they have with everything else I've tried.

Next year I'm going for motorcyclists heated socks as I hate cold feet though!!!
