Found, decent watch

Once found £420 in £20 notes by the side of a main road, took it to the police, 90 days later collected £420.The police woman who handed it over was a sour faced old boot who said I could not have it back as 3 calender months have not passed, I said that I was told 90 days by the desk sergeant at the time and if you like we can give him a call... She backed down and got the money out of the safe...

Funny thing was as we finished our shopping after handing it in we had a phone call saying that they had been down to the area and could not see any other money, so we went along and I saw £20 hanging in a tree, so got out the car and picked it, saw another £20 down the embankment and another £20 in the field, coming back up the embankment I say another £20 I missed and picked that up too. Well happy chappy, spent a bit in Tesco's that night, DVD, whisky, beer, decent meal....

Update:

Chalkwell drain technician* Aaron Large found four watches, one of them a £21,000 Rolex and the other three replicas, in a drain and looked set to keep them if the owner didn’t come forward. The owner did come forward and it turned out that the watches were stolen in a burglary last year. The Rolex had been a present from the owner’s late wife. The watches and the owner were reunited and he gave Mr Large the replicas as a mark of gratitude.

I bet he was a happy man

Mungler, The Police will check the details, serial numbers etc and any identifying marks against both the lost register and any crime reports.

By reporting it found all of the legal requirements have been met and the finder now becomes the owner. The only fly in the ointment is that the insurance company may still have a claim on it if they've paid out, definately keep any paperwork and you're covered.

Pound to a penny its a fake...

Even if it isnt Omega watches arent as popular as they used to be Seamasters dont hold their value too well.

Dont sell it...keep it for a couple of years.

If it is genuine the owner will be making every effort to locate it I would imagine, and the plod office would be the first port of call.

You could get a nice reward for finding and keeping in safe custom pending return..

I've had a watchsmith look at it to fix the strap and he said that it's genuine, so if you could just pop that shiny pound-coin into an envelope and send it to me.....

I thought that anyone that had lost it would go straight to the police but clearly not as it was there for a month and I really didn't expect to be able to keep it.

PM me the serial number and I will let you know if its genuine. ;) Modern replicas are so good they will fool most watchsmiths to be honest.

Also the movenment calibre... which will be marked on the case

I almost bought a Genuine Omega a couple of years ago with a forged serial number as well. It was only when I noticed that the second hand was ticking around the dial rather than smoothly sweeping that I realised it wasnt right...The guy selling it had papers and was suprised when I told him that it was a replica.....Omega didnt make this model as a Quartz watch only in Auto mechanical movement.

I am sure there is a legal precedence here. Didn’t someone acquire/find a valuable painting that had been put in a skip or donated to charity shop and when they tried to sell it the owner came forward and successfully claimed it back. I seem to recall the Judge deemed the painting lost because the owner was unaware it had been disposed of during refurbishment works. I’m not sure but I think the value of the item has a bearing on this.

Anyone remember this..??

Might be wise to hang on to it for a while unless you really need the money.

In this case I believe the owner has lost his claim on it, and if I didn't keep the watch it would be destroyed by the police 7 days after the initial 30 days.

The model number is a 2311.10.00 and the caliber number is 1438. The back has been off and all is genuine within (the number on the inside of the back is 196 1501).
