Cockermax
Currently got a Discovery TD5 ES spec. Have got 255 55 R18 road tyres on it at the moment. Been offered a set of Maxxis Bighorn Tyres in 275 65 R18. Can anyone advise me if these are suitable as offroad tyres for the Disco as the difference in size seems a bit much. Any advice would be helpfull. Thanks.

bobt
unless you mean 265/75/16? they may fit but it will be tight.
Dr_evil
265/75's will be very tight, you'd need a lift with that ideally or to be driving round with the air suspension as high up as possible 245/75's are about the biggest before you need to start modding with suspension or camel cuts
Cockermax
Thanks for the advice guys. They are 275 65 R18 which I now know are way to big for a Disco. Will just have to cough up for a set of AT's later in the year.
PhilR
I've got a TD5 with 18" rims. I managed to get a cheap set of 16" rims from the garage I bought it from, only Disco 2 or Range Rover P38 rims will fit, and got some Grabber AT2 fitted for getting around my game shoot in winter. The tyres are cheaper and there's a better range of tyres available in the smaller rim size. Mine are the standard 235/70/16 which doesn't affect the gearing either. I've never bothered to refit the 18" rims just for road use or when the going is easier off road.
Sco77w
Thanks for the advice guys. They are 275 65 R18 which I now know are way to big for a Disco. Will just have to cough up for a set of AT's later in the year. I had a set of ATs fittes a few weeks ago and have done about 600 miles with them. They have good road manners in the wet and dry and although I've only been in a field with them and not done any serious off roading I can't fault them. I went for the 255-60-18s on my D2 and the slightly larger aspect ratio fills the gap nicely. the speedo reads bang on now too.
