tarn2215
I currently shot a relic of a fabarm that is due to celebrate its 40th birthday next year and it has been suggested that snap caps might be a good idea to help preserve the springs. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is this a good idea.

Fatcatsplat
When you feel the need for slippers and Ovaltine, then it's probably time...... Do a search on here - Waste of time and energy. If your guns had 40 years of use, give it a service, not snap caps!

Salopian
If you need to ask about snap caps after 40 years, you should be in a home.
Salopian
tarn 2215, There is no need to use snap caps for anything other than testing trigger pulls or letting the tension off hammer springs when storing a gun. Unfortunately, using snap caps to release hammer spring tension then subjects the ejector springs to tension. So it it is always a win / lose situation. Coil springs are very durable pieces of hardware, so I would not worry too much. To answer the question to your personal satisfaction ask yourself this, 'When you park your car, do you jack it up off the ground to release the tension off the road springs?' I hope that answer helps.
