Im not sure but...

..surely the steel shot barely touches the barrel as all steel are plastic wad so the wad will hold the pellets in its case until the end of the barrel? So the only thing touching the barrel is the plastic wad, not the steel shot?

Or is it something to do with higher pressures?

i have been told in a non proofed steel gun to use half choke or less with a maximum size number 4 and around 32g or 34 max and no more to be safe all steel are higher presure than lead dont have to worry about barrel damage as the wads hold the shot and avoids the steel from touching the barrel saga 32g feild steel pressure is 740kg per cm that what it says on the box

Then I very much doubt it will have the fleur-de lys symbol stamped on the barrel, which is the magnum steel proof mark.

What make is the gun and is it a multi choke or fixed choke?

its renato gamba semi auto 3/4 choke so recon i need a new / replacement gun for the new wildfolers season?

You can pick up a secondhand, steel proofed, Hatsan Escort semi auto for a couple of hundred quid, then sell it on if fowlings not for you, just an idea :good:

Have been shooting no4 hull steel game 32g throught full choke on my Hatsan for a year or so now with no problems at all, deadly combination at all medium to long ranges on rabbit, hare, pheasant.Choke checked with internal micrometere, good as new.
