Izuzu Trooper

Following on from a topic I posted in Wanted yesterday, I'm after a replacement vehicle for my work van which I've killed in flood water. I'd like a 4X4 that will do for both work and shooting. Thought about a Disco commercial but don't seem to be many about and fewer good ones. Pickups are poor value for money unless buying nearly new. I'm now thinking about an Izuzu Trooper 3 door commercial. Seem to be a few about at reasnable money. So whats the catch? Is it just a question of fuel economy?

Looking good for an insurance payout so I could get something half decent. Would this make a day to day vehicle?

Someone suggested Nissan Terrano which would fit the bill, but they seem to be rocking horse teeth.

Hi i have had 2 troopers and think they are great , they are a bit thirsty but then any 4x4 will be to be honest unless you buy a very new one . the commercial ones are obviously the same as the non ones but with no back windows. i am an electrician and have my ownn work van and a 4x4, my only thought is that you will not have enough space in the 4x4, i certainly wouldnt with the kit i use . cheers

3.0l Troupers had an issue with injectors allowing fuel to leak past into the sump eventually resulting in the engine hydraulicing (running on fuel/oil mix from the sump)until eventually going bang. For years Isuzu were modding and replacing engines under warranty which cost them millions. Apparently they have now stopped paying out sif you buy one make sure its had all the mods and check the oil daily to make sure levels not going up! The 3.1l if you can find a good one (pre 98) are fine.

I had a Trooper and loathed it.

I traded it against a 3.0 DI Terrano 2006. It is a great truck, I recently had it remapped, it was pretty pokey before, but now it flies.

I fancy a Defender, but every time I weigh up the pros and cons, I can't justify the change, the Terrano is such a good truck. At the moment Mrs ME has left her 2007 Audi A4 convertible in the garage and is driving around in my truck, she loves it too.

I had a 3.0l trooper, had the recalls done, new injectors & loom, cost isuzu 1200 sheets, if you go for the 3.0 check the recalls have been done, also if the 4wd switch isnt used regular the vac solonoids that lock in the front diff tend to stick & seize resulting in no 4wd. the 3.1 is a safer engine although older so getting a good one will be a challenge, good truck tho even if a bit agricultural :good:

which bit about pickups is poor value for money, personally my day to day run about is a 55plate L200 bought one owner and 60k on it about 18 months ago for 6k now its got 88k on and had nothing other than routine servicing.

I use it for commuting shooting and for generally carting rubbish about while doing up the current house, it carried 8 people happily on a vermin shoot the other week off road in pretty horrendous conditions. The week before it was off to Dorset for the weekend no issues at all comfy and economy is typical 4x4 so 28-30 With the top on its great for carrying a reasonable amount of gear and dogs etc with it off its back to a pickup. Seats 5 inside when you need to and you still pay commercial road tax. For me its far more practical day to day but like everything you need to buy a well looked after example, but they definitely can be a bargain if you don't think you have to have a hilux. When I was looking you could buy two of these for the price of an equivalent hilux
