Mungler
Like many we have a house load of 240v mains halogen GU10 type lights We found the halogen bulbs ran really hot and didn't last that long. Mind you, the bulbs were cheap to replace but are now being phased out under euro energy laws. We then got some first generation GU10 led bulbs and they were dim as you like - we leave those on at night on the landing as night lights for the kids. The interesting bit though is that they must have been on all night for every night for the last 5 years and not one bulb has blown. Downstairs I got some second generation super bright LED bulbs GU10 mains fitting and they have all blown over the last 9 months. They weren't that cheap either and we have quite a few bulbs to replace now (maybe 30) I've just looked on eBay and there appears to be a new next generation super bright GU10 led version but they are big money - like a fiver a bulb. What's the score? I'm thinking going back to cheap GU10 halogen bulbs is the way to go. Ta very.

Wiggum
I work for a market leading company who specialise in lighting and electrical maintenance and we are currently undertaking a number of projects with some of our main customers to replace lots of inefficient lighting with high spec led lamps. We only fit Philips lamps as currently they are the best on the market you really do get what you pay for when it comes to led lamps Edited April 29, 2012 by Wiggum

HDAV
Wiggum, i too have used the Philips just be careful how they are promoted as dimming them is a real issue and they have huge inrush currents which will knobble many a basic lighting control system if you clients use Helvar, Lutron, iLight etc or similar well worth doing lots of testing...... I Know MODE Edin works pretty well with the Philips but it took a while to get it right so that the combo i will be using from now on! If they are using rotary dimmers make sure they are leading edge and down rate to 10% of the rated load for LED! 500W dimmer can safely run 50W of LEDs...... m3vert
Ive got to say Mungler I was stuck with the choice of saving the planet but emptying my wallet with 20LEDS for my kitchen or part with a few quid and screw the environment! I let you work out where my beer money went The LEDS are either too expensive or light up like a wee candle!
Teal
Recently got some Philips Master (perfect fit) 5.5W to replace 50W halogens in the kitchen, they seem to work a charm run a lot cooler and pump out an equivalent amount of light. At £15 each it was a hit though. Also got some fairly cheap eBay LEDs for the bath room, think they were around four pounds a pop and are 4.5W bulbs, I wasn't sure of the light initially (day light), but I actually prefer it now. The light colour from the Philips ones in warm white is the same as halogens, as I have other lights in the room I wanted to make sure this was the case - mixing different light temperatures looks awful apparently. For a while you could get Philips MyAmbience LED's from Sainsburys for £7.99 each, but I have read somewhere that the Philips ranges of these and others are being phased out, and that they are focusing on the "Master LEDs" - watch out though as unless they are a "perfect fit" model they are considerably longer and may not suit your fittings. These are the chaps on eBay I got, haven't had them that long, hope I don't find the same results you do, early results seem good, but they do only have a 30 day money back guarantee . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6X-GU10-MR16-21-38-48-60-80-Day-Warm-White-SMD-LED-Bulb-/120772020125?pt=UK_Light_Bulbs&var=&hash=item61cc8e9214 I got the 80LED version. The Philips Master LED 5.5W perfect fit, seem to mostly sell for about £20-25, but on eBay I was able to get mine for £15, so well worth keeping an eye out, as it nearly halves the payback! Glenshooter
In the autumn I bought some from ebay GU10/MR16 60/4W LED Light Bulbs Day/Warm White - costing £30 for 8. They were awful. A horrible green colour, much worse than fluorescent lighting. Kept them in for a few hours and had to change back to halogen.

Nick Agree with that, colour matches standard GU10 very closely so you don't feel like you have moved into a shop window!
