luckytrigger
Hi all I am going to look at a vitara 1.6 tonight and just wanted to know what i should be looking out for. It is a 2000 model with 64,000 miles on the clock. Any advice would be gratefully received. I had one for a couple of years.. they are a good little 4x4 but not much room in the back although the rear seats unbolt easily. Not too much goes wrong with them but watch for the 'tin worm' on the sills.

archiebald
Great cars i love mine, check for rust underneith the rear bumper mounts often go first (this one in newish but still worth checking) and if it has free wheeling hubs check there not stuck as they often are and will need a strip and clean/grease. good luck. paulr5604
Still on the look out went to see it last night too many bumps for my liking. Is it okay to drive with the diff lock on locked mode on the hubs all the time or should it have been in the free mode. Sorry for the daft question but new to 4x4 buying. If anyone is or knows of anyone selling a small 4x4 please let me know my budget is about £1000
four-wheel-drive
I was looking for one a while back but rust is the problem as has been said under rear seats I nearly had a beauty it was a red hard top with wide alloys no rust in it until I looked under the carpet to find holes in the flour if you can find a good rust free one they are great little cars. you can also check out the grand vitara the two doors are nice and you can have them in 2 ltr so a bit more poke. snowblind66
It should always be in free mode if driving on tarmac
