This Mornings Stalking

Recommended Posts

Well i decided to have a mornings stalking this morning as the freezer could do with a bit more Munty.

I got there well before first light and was in position in reasonable time.

I had been sitting there for about half a hour when a fox put in a appearance at about 175 yards away, a quick squeak and she came trotting towards me, i had to shout "Oi" to get her to stop at around 40 yards away. Result!

Exit close up(I did a little field PM as this was the first kill with my homeloads).

Well after that i had a quick coffee then saw some movement ahead. It turned out to be a young Muntjac Doe, smaller in size than the fox i had just shot, so i let her pass.

I was thinking of packing up when i saw another fox walking towards me, I didnt need to squeak this one, but did have to shout at it to stop it. As soon as the shot had gone off, a CWD that i hadnt seen in the side of the vegitation to off at high speed.

Fox Number 2

always a bonus slotting foxes!

what loads/calibre?

will they not produce similar carcase damage on a muntjack?

Bewesher,

Caliber is 6.5x55

The load which i have worked up for my gun is

Reused Hornady factory case

CCI 200 Large Rifle Primer

47gn Reloader 22

140gn A-Max

Regarding carcass damage, possibily.

The first fox was a true broadside, and it had a small entry wound and reasonable exit wound, i would not be upset with this on a Muntjac.

The second fox was quartering and the entry wound was through the heavy shoulder bone, so i would have expected a bit of carcass damage really even with my factory stuff.

A deer, even a Muntjac, is bigger those foxes though.
