Informal Clay Grounds Near Newbury

Hi Chaps,

As I am recently getting into Clay Shooting, I was wondering if anyone knew or could recommend any informal clay ground/shoots near the Newbury area in West Berkshire? This is because it is quite expensive going to the Shooting School for practice rather than say a farm or similar.

Many Thanks,

Sticky

Three Counties and Chalky Hill alternate Sundays (they are run by the same people). There is another, on the last Sunday of the month, just off the A31 between Four Marks and Alton. I am sure that there will be grounds closer to you though.

See you there tomorrow. :good: I'll be in the green Defender convertible.

Where's the other one, I know, just off the A31....

I shall be in a silver Touareg. Probably just 2 of us tomorrow as my son is staying over at a mate's house tonight.

The one off the A31 is on a farm between Four Marks and Alton. If going from Four Marks, it is on the left not far after the dual carriageway starts. You go through a narrow railway arch bridge and it is up there on your left, opposite a muddy motorsports place. From Alton, there is a green sign and cut-through in the central reservation. It is held on the last Sunday of the month.

I would recommend Folly Farm on the A339. Both Sarah and Paul (Alfie)are great coaches and will be more than happy to help. the ground is small and informal.

I have Sarah's number if you would like to get in touch with them?

Yes thank you very much, two questions: do they have hire guns until I get my certificate and is their the opportunity to practice on your own without tuition?

Saw yours too but, as you say, it was busy and impossible to link people to cars. I was planning to go to Three Counties next Sunday. Where is the Brikiln Farm shoot?

Nick

It's the one between Four Marks & Alton, OS map shows it as Brickiln Farm. Doubt we'll be going now, the forecast's pretty poor.

Ok - I never knew the name of the place. I should have guessed though as the rain will turn it into some approaching the Somme. Waders and wetsuit rather than your prized boots..... We shall see what it is like on the day.

If you dont have a license they can provide you with one for a lesson, however they can not leave you to use it unsupervised. Once you have your license and everything sorted the ground is open for practice most days
