silver pigeon 3
Hi Can anybody shed any light on why my dog is being attacked by other dogs? It has now happened on 5 seperate occasions. 3 of these times it was by the same dog who is normally not aggresive, a few weeks back he was attacked by a brown collie while we were doing some water training with Spaniel from off of here, my dog was stood by the side of me off of the lead when the other dog pitched into him. Tonight i was out shooting over standing rape and when after i packed up i was just about to pick a few birds that had fell into the copse behind as i rounded the end of the hedge a Lurcher type dog ran 30 yards with his tail wagging then as they were about to go nose to nose he decided to pitch in to my dog. On all the occasions my Lab, Rosco has shown no aggresion before/during or after the incident . He is a 16 month old un-castrated male Lab. Up until now there has been no serious injurys, but he has been bitten on his face and was left with 3 puncture wounds, i am getting a bit nervous now when dogs are around him. Any ideas Gents? Asa Bear
I'm no expert but your nervousness will transfer to your dog. If another dog looks like it's going to pitch into your dog give it a whack with your boot or stick if you have one to hand. Your dog wants you to be his alpha and will grow in confidence if you stand up for him. The owner of the other dog will have no grounds for complaint as it obviously isn't under control. I'm sure somebody better qualified will be along shortly.

Thanks for the reply mate, don't get me wrong i don't tolerate it and the other dogs get what they deserve, the one dog that has done it 3 times i thought we had it sorted, as it was severely reprimanded by its owner after the second time. They were then fine together for the next 3 meetings although they were under very close supervision, but it happened again so they will be having no contact anymore. This is a difficult one because it is a very good friend of mine. The other two were complete surprise attacks, with no for warning. I removed the other dogs both time and dealt with the situation. I think half the problem is the owners are so useless and have no authority over there dogs, last night excuse was "my dog does not like big black dogs" what do you say to someone like that? I treat all my dogs well, but they all know there place in the family and if they step out of line i will correct as is required, normally a low growl of there name is enough for them to know i am not amused and they stop whatever they are doing. Asa Bear
I know what you mean sp3. My dog was attacked as a puppy and as a result thinks get in there first. He is now in the process of resocialising. Many owners never bothered in the first place!

Report it as a race hate crime and I'm sure some busy body will throw the whole weight of the law behind it! Sorry couldn't resist.

Unluckily for the rotty I was wearing rigger boots at the time so kicked it as hard as I could in the face. Stupid thing ran off squealing
malantone
had a 6month pup attacked by a Lab running lose, I followed it home (100yds) and told the owner, she said "it wouldn`t do that" Itold her if it came near again I would split its skull. Needless to say I never saw it again, but the dog was always warey of yellow labs.
