Dear all,

Thanks for your really helpful comments. I'm gonna head to the shop first thing and demand a full refund. I've got my eye on a brand new 3" Escort on sale at the countryman up in Derby so will be heading up that way later in the week. I'll let you know how it fairs in the future.

Cheers!

Thanks for all your comments and advice.

I went back to the shop expecting a bit of a barney, only to get really good, no questions asked service. I got my refund and bought a brand new '12 edition 3" Magnum for £40 quid more than I paid for the second hand Mk1. I'll run it in on Thursday with those Eley VIPs and let you know how it works out.

I get the feeling that at Shooting Supplies Bromsgrove it all depends on who serves you as to whether or not you get the best advice. I can't fault them as a shop for all their help, even if they did generate the problems to start with!!

Work fine in my OU and SxS never had a jam..... Olympics cycle well in semi's 70mm case and decent punch!

Edit: to the OP the £40 is worth it for the warranty.... Worth getting competent at stripping it and making sure it isn't full of oil from the factory!

Countryman have got the new xtrememax autos in and they are suppose to shoot everything down to 24 gram and it think they look quite good as well.

The mk3( I think) 3" escort with the fast loading system and cone end cap goes down to 24 gram in the manual. I tried mine with 67mm 21 grams and dint have a single problem the other day claying as this is what my sister used. I can't fault my hatsan at all, I've not had a single jam yet, only got it in feb but put around 1500 through it now. The newest edition escort is the same internals as the extremax. Glad you got it sorted. And to be honest I don't think I'd like to put a 3 1/2 through, she'd kick like a mule.

Having a big cartridge in a semi just feels like a sxs with 30-32 gram loads

My sxs gives me bruises every time I use it, but can't sell it as the mrs bought me it. She's adament I use it on the pigeons with 32's in, gives me a right kick in the face. "why don't you take my gun out no more, you don't use or appreciate it " is all I get, aswell as an aching shoulder and sore chops, more often a bleeding finger from the double trigger. Back to subject gave mine a clean tonite and it's good as new, just a quick wipe and re oil that was it done.

Dan-250,

With all the problems you are having young man, the gun does not fit you, simple as that:

Get someone else<<< who shoots to put it to their shoulder, see if they get any problems mounting it, ALL the symtoms you are describing ,are coming from a TOO SHORT a Stock, Stick some rubber on the BUTT with TAPE till it all feels better, then,,, either put a spacer in the buttt or take it to someone who can, No Big Deal...

Hi Guys, Here we go again::::::

I have the 3.5" Hatsan, I have posted on here what the problem was, never mind breaking in, load of Codswallop..

The may be tight, but every gun should be anyway, ask a gunsmith:::

I ONLY came across problems with My 3.5" when the cartridges were very Dirty, my mate next door to me had a BERRETA AUTO, his gun Jammed more than mine:: Cleaned and changed cartridges, never had another problem...

What you feed it is the answer, there is no such thing as a Rogue gun made on Monday or Friday like a car, AND 28 Grm will go through it ALL DAY without a Hiccup, if having this problem, change cartridges, it will work... Clean it well, before changeing catridges, you will not be disappionted... :good:

I tried out my new Hatsan 3" this evening- worked like a flaming charm!! As a test, a friend lent me some really pathetic 21gm carts and it cycled them without even blinking! I can't get over the lack of recoil with the VIPs, which hammered me when I used someones OU the other week, unbelievable.

Subsonicat- I saw your comment about lengthening a gun's stock and this made my life a lot easier tonight.

Cheers for all your advice and help people!

Tried my new escort out the other night with comp x's and jammed every time, tried other cartridges and worked every time. Stripped it down today cleaned it and removed the packing / transit grease and oiled it. Teach me to take a new gun streight off the rack, without cleaning it and removing the grease of first.

I for one utterly fail to see the point of even trying a Comp X in any semi-auto unless someone has a very very good reason. And by good reason I mean being a child, little woman or some sort of medical condition.

I dont class that as a good reason.... only good reason would be that is the only gun and cartridge available for 100 miles and a zombie hoard is chasing you....
