Hi hope your managing to get out with your big gun

Just a idea on cleaning had you considered plaiting 3 or 4 bore snakes together to make large pull through

All the best for the rest of the season

Ps my punt coming on like a dream put the linen on deck today

Have you thought about putting a thread up about your punt? I'm sure quite a few would be interested. I've started building a scale model of the punt that i will eventually build.

Its been a while since I've had any time to spend on the gun, work has been manic and all my free time I've been wildfowling or taking my son shooting.

I did grab a few hours to finish the gun crutch off. It works really well...

This is with the gun sat on it (before the crutch was fitted with padding) at its lowest setting

This is with it lifted slightly to show how it works... (not that it's complicated!)

Today my dad (the super dad that he is!) sorted out some space in his workshop so we could paint the gun!

I'd cleaned it up at my house and took it round this morning (after morning flight of course!)

We de-greased it, rubbed it down to key the surface and masked up the machined faces to remain unpainted

Then he applied 3 coats of wash primer

I've got to say, for an old boy he can throw a spray gun about pretty well!

Once those layers had been baked on we flatted it off with wet & dry

Then it was time for the top coat! 3 coats of it...

These are some of the finished article.

I've got to say, i'm chuffed with the result!

so all in all, a big thanks to my old man!

Wow, read the entire thread this evening - astounding! When is it taking to the water?

Well I hope you enjoyed the read. It will be out at least once between now and the new year...

Not sure exactly when yet but got some dates in mind, even if it's just to test fire it whilst on the punt...

Well done wildfowler nice gun & paint job I assume you took the photos whilst the paint was wet giving the allusion of a gloss finish.

Houseboat.

Yes the paint was still wet making it very glossy...

We were going to put a matting agent in the paint to give it a true mat finish but flatting any imperfections then becomes an issue.

The paint has cured now and it does still have a slight gloss to it (no where near as much as in the other pics) so I'll run over it with a fine polish compound to knock it off...
