What cartridges work well in a Hatsan Escort

Well my origional plans ran into a technical hitch, the phoenix I was planning to buy met with a big obsticle in that its too long to fit in the cabinate

 

Went through the gun racks and tried various s/a's, and found the Escort MK3 fitted me the best and felt right and ended up getting a new mk3 camo 28" one, with 3" chambers. Must admit not my first choice of gun.

 

Only Prob it does not like my fav cartridges Hull Comp X's in fibre (too soft) , only had these on me tried a freinds cartridges and it liked them.

 

What cartridges do users of the Escort find that work well with it, and are in fibre wad due to some grounds have restrictions. Will at the moment using it on clays to get used to it, so max of 28G cartridges.

 

Don't wan't cartridges that will kick like a mule as will be using them in other shotguns.

If it's brand new then it might need a few carts through it to loosen it up, then it might cycle the softer cartridges OK. Some people put a box of very heavy (50g ish) cartridges through them to speed the process up.

 

The main thing is that the carts are 70mm long. Semi's don't do well on the 65 or 67 mm cases you sometimes find.

With a gas semi you do t fel the recoil as much so use a harderhitting cartridge. If clays eley blues or even eley first. Express English sportier or cci claybusters

Mine cycles all the carts I have tried fine , 65mm & 67mm also fine in mine. Is it a new Escort (don't know what mk we are up to) mine was new 2 months ago. Might just need to put a few more through it

I use Cheddite 28g 7.5 Fibre wad without a hitch.

Goes through the Hatsan without a problem, and brings the birds down lovely.

Good for the shoulder as well, and whats more at £165.00 per 1,000 they are good for the pocket as well

Sounds good to me, that they will fire comp x's got a few other catridges in, though think they are Hull intercomp HV, Can see it, that it will come to buying a slab of punchy cartridges listed above and then retrying the comp x's

Have also used Hull Intercomp HV Fibre 28g , Then COACH on this forum let me try some CompX fibres 28g the 21g and it cycled all three carts

 

Eley First 28g fibres also work well.

I found mine preferred 70mm cases but given that would cycle any 70mm cartridge I could find.I must have been fortunate mine was a really nice gun,light,pointable & a good trigger.Sold it only because I need to pick up spent carts where I shoot so a non ejector O/U is so much easier.

Yes the gun was brand new, straight off the gun rack on onto the clays (normally take a gun home first to clean them), stripped it down today which was easier than I thought. The tricky bit was the bolt pull back lever, parts of the gun was covered in packing grease, all now removed and nicely oiled. Did not remove the trigger group as that looked free of grease, just oiled it. Will be trying it again next week, though will try the Hull Intercomps through it.

If your going anywhere near Cross shooting Ground in Kinver last time i was there they had Eley first and Olympics at good prices, Olympics are good as punchy with 70mm case (Plaswad only though)

I'm using a Mk4 with 28gm Eley VIPs. There's virtually no kick whatsoever in my opinion, and these guys have a bit more kick than comparable carts- I've tried this in sxs and ou's and the difference you see in these is not noticeable in the Escort.

I'm using a Mk4 with 28gm Eley VIPs. There's virtually no kick whatsoever in my opinion, and these guys have a bit more kick than comparable carts- I've tried this in sxs and ou's and the difference you see in these is not noticeable in the Escort.

 

Thought there were only 3 mk's of the escort, mine has the external chokes and came into the country at the end of 2011, is this the latest version or is there a latter one stil?

With what your describing , mine Escort does this with Lyalvale Express Pigeon SP and Express Supreme Game only :(

 

No problems with Hull CompX Fibres in 28g or 21g cycles all three carts

I had this prob wit mine I couldn't put hull through mime as 1 they were to short and the other prob was not enough kick in the cartridge 2 eject them so I switched to Olympics 67mm cartridges.

I don't know of any one has herd off this befoe i got a hatsan escort m/c o shot it today and one shot I got what looked like confetti come out of the end of the gun but it carried on shooting fine. Got it home tonight to clean the hun and found out that the choke in the end of it has a big gash split in it and the barrel is distorted as well. I don't think it was the choke lose coz I checked it before I shot and it was tight every time. The gun is brand new ove only had it for about 2 months can Amy one help please

There is a thread about faults with the escort, might be worth a read through it to see if any thing is simuler to your symtoms.

It's not unheard of for chokes to be blown out, but that normally happens when they are loose.

Take it back to where you bought it from and they'll give you a replacement, no gun should fail at 2 months old. Plus they normally have a 3 year warranty anyway.
