cockercas
i just got a t8 for my hornet. dont listen to the tools who have never owned one going on about not been strippabal. i have a second hand one on my .243 that has had 1000 bullets thru it from me and god knows what before hand. as soon as you get home give it a quick spray down the mod with wd40 no hassle with stripping mods. T8s are the best, they are the bench mark for quietness. better then crappy wildcats or atecs or whatever if they wasnt i wouldn't own 2, i dont own ****. i even had a brand spanking gun re-threaded to fit the T8 i had. the only thing with them is you need a cover over the mod, or you get a tinny sort of noise closing the bolt another tip, get one suitable for 6mm not .30cal, the 6mm is quieter on a hornet. cockercas
just make sure you get a cover for it, they cost pennies
njc110381
I wouldn't have either on a Hornet. They're both massive and the Hornet is little more than a posh rimfire! I'd go for something like a small A-Tec or a MAE myself... I've had both the .17 and .22 Hornet and anything T8 sized is well OTT! EDIT... I even had a Sak on my .22H for a while and that wasn't bad. Just to clarify how little blast the Hornet produces! Edited August 21, 2012 by njc110381
cockercas
but you can use the t8 on a bigger rifle (one of the reasons i got another) so if my other one wares out i can just dump the newer t8 on the end of the .
Billy.
Wildcat, without a moment of consideration. If one of the lads on here decides he's not buying mine (currently trying it out) you can buy mine (223 or 224 tbc)
stokie
T8s are the best, they are the bench mark for quietness. better then crappy wildcats or atecs or whatever if they wasnt i wouldn't own one Spoken like a bloke who knows nowt about them i assume . I've got wildcat p8 ont 223 and it's loads quieter than my mates 223 with the t8

I've got wildcat p8 ont 223 and it's loads quieter than my mates 223 with the t8 As ever on here spoken by someone with one who rubbishes stuff he hasn't tried. P8 here and I wouldn't put it on a hornet for the reasons njc gave there are much better choices out there. T8's and the likes are fine on the bigger centre fires but a load of weight on something small
njc110381
but you can use the t8 on a bigger rifle (one of the reasons i got another) so if my other one wares out i can just dump the newer t8 on the end of the .243 That's a very big compromise though. Better to buy a new mod to replace the worn one. I tend to share mods on my small rifles and share mods on my big rifles. Mixing the two never gives great results unfortunately. I'm currently running a .30 Ase Northstar on my .223 and that's a great example of a **** decision! As soon as my new Hornet is done I'll be buying a small MAE or maybe a CMM4 to get that weight right down on the smaller guns. EDIT... If you insist on a Wildcat or B R Tuote then perhaps look at the P8/P4 compact or the T4AR. They'll at least be half way towards a sensible choice. cockercas
It works and I've never noticed the weight tbh. I never walk with a gun
GatGun
I use a the same wildcat p8 mod on .223 and .243 wth different thread sizes. Only cost me 70 quid for new bridge and bush. Cant do that with a t8 ! I strip it down to let it air out when ive been out in the rain. It dries in no time and i can check it internally to see if its dry or not. ( surprising how much rain gets through that tiny hole ! ). On a hornet though get a compact version with the 4 baffles if thats all itl be used on. markws80
I had one made by jim baker, jim as started making moderators range of calibres and fittings, I went to see him to test fired one and i must say the Sound reduction on my rifle(22-250) was ace , i had a T8 on my rifle but this new one offers a lot better sound reduction. It is made of stainless steel and is a sealed unit consisting of a series of welded baffles forward of the muzzle, with a large rear expansion chamber that sits over the barrel its powder coating on the out side , the powder coating can be done in any colours, jim said i could have a pink one but the best part it will not rust out , will not need cleaning and jim said the more i use it the quieter it will get. Simon123
Just got a ASE Ultra for our Browning X-Bolt .223, and it's fantastic. It's compact, supprisingly light and moderates very well, better than a wildcat in our opinion

Redgum
I have P8's on my 243 and 308,side by side comparison and I'd say the T8 is a tad quieter, but either of these rifles will not be rimmy sub sonic quiet whatever you stick on the end. the P8 is easy to clean and slightly lighter than the T8. Never had a hornet but it does seem a big can to stick on the end of this calibre
foxshooter69
Have a look at the sonic 45, I've just put one on my .243 from highland outdoors
Olliesims
I have a tld (thomas lowe defence) 110 series carbon mod on my .223 I have the compact one, there bloody expensive at £270 but got it for £240 with my gun when I got it, it's weighs 575g / 225mm long and is supposed to be fully stripable apart from the end baffles have cemented them selfs in, what is my fault, there not bad moderators as they specialise in military/police equipment
plinker
but with .222 & 6.5, easy to clean and quiet. me as well 222&243 i had a t8 before and even though i put wd 40 every time i used it lumps of rust used to fall out of it pile of junk. phaedra1106
I had one made by jim baker, jim as started making moderators range of calibres and fittings, Can I ask what sort of price does he charge, there's nothing on the web site. I've been waiting since May for one from Dave Mercer and need another two but he's not replying to emails or texts.

I have the tld 200 on a 223 i find it nowhere near as quiet as my mates ase ultra cqb. have left it on a few weeks in the hope it would settle in. have tested side by side same barrel length same ammo and still loads louder. dont get me wrong its well built, looks the part and well ballanced but it aint very quiet
