Conservation of Red Squirrels

I've signed it, and well done for the effort. I do however feel that the case could have been better put.

I was number 5, so we've a long way to go.

If every PW member gets 4 people to sign the petition we may see some action.

Yep, I agree it could have been put better. I posted it around midnight and was a bit tired

Just jogged my memory this thread.

 

Newcastle Radio had a muppet on talking about the Red Squirrel, & the Grey.

 

Apparently the Grey is not responsible for the demise of the Red, MAN is...... a good few years ago we shot them all.

 

After that the UK had to import 1000's of Reds from Finland IIRC to replace the ones shot.

 

The debate on Jonathan Miles was about culling, & as usual no representation from the shooting end.

Most red squirrels were reintroduced from other parts of Britain actually. Only a small number came from Scandinavia.

 

Red squirrels were victims of persecution, but that stopped around the 30s I believe.
