Solar panel installation

I’ve been looking at the cost of installing some solar panels on scaffolding on a small piece of land that I own. Given that the actual costs of panels are dropping all the time to the extent that having the panels installed by a ‘company’ specialising in this sort of thing are 3 times that of just buying them and getting them fitted.

Is it possible to just buy the panels direct from the manufacturer, then get a qualified electrician (whose been on the solar panel fitting course) just to connect up. If so, what else do you need to do to get the feed in tariff?
