Ruger M77/17

Hi,

Just received my FAC :good:yippeeeee.

Have been looking around at various HMR's - trouble is the money I had saved just disappeared as I blew the turbo on the car.

I had pretty much decided on a new CZ thumbhole but I'm not sure at all that I can wait while I save up again  .

So I've been looking at various secondhand models. Have come across a Ruger 17 that seems reasonable, however I can only find USA based reviews (comparing Ruger with Savage or Marlin).

Anyone out there in the great PW knowledge base have any views/info. on the Ruger. Any info good or bad would be much appreciated as I don't want to make a mistake as there is plenty of choice out there.

There are a few on here, including myself that have the 77/17, i did have issues at the start but very possibly down to myself.

The advantage with the rugers are the shot capacity, and nearly 100% magazine feed, only dirt in the mag faults it so thats in your hands. I dont regret having that as my choice, yes they are more expensive, but i like it.

I did a little work on in like fully float the barrell, replace the trigger with a "rifle basics" and thats about it, find what it like to shoot and be happy with it.

Just for info the other one i fancied was the HW60, but years ago they were fitted with open sights so that was a little stumbling block at the time, also a low profile on the stock. Both not major issues, specially now as they have removed the open sights, i think. I also looked at the Savage, but went off that due to having problems removing the mag, not something i needed to struggle with out in the field.

There is every likleyhood the one your looking at has had some work on it, just check it shoots well before you hand over any cash, if they want to sell they will allow you to, if not then dont bother as they possibly have something to hide. :good:
