hatsan question

I thought they'd fixed this problem on the gen 2 & 3's?

No both mine were gen2 and both hated 65mm carts. I'm pretty sure hatsan even suggest a minimum of 32g load cartridge in the manual Which tend to be 67/70mm as a rule, so I'm not sure why people bother moaning about them jamming on 65's.

i was tempted to buy a hatsan but have heard good and bad about them. The 70mm cartridge thinh isnt a problem to me as i already use 70mm cartridges. Should i buy one or not.

That's up to you. Most people who have a go at them have never used one, they just know of someone who's mate was in the pub who heard someone talking about one that went bang or didn't cycle well.

They are great value for money, they are simple and reliable, and as they're cheap you tend not to mind if it gets scratched like you would with an expensive one.

Use the cartridges it's designed for, check the chokes are screwed in properly and you should have a good gun. I'd suggest the 3" version, the 3.5" seems to be less reliable and unless you need the extra chamber length I'd avoid one.

I've had chokes loose at the end of 25 cartridges recently. Is this a known issue, and what should I be doing to stop this happening ?

There are a few cures - weak loctite, linseed oil - anything that will stop them from moving. I just did mine extra tight. Keep an eye on them until you can be certain that they won't move.

iv had 3 escorts one was fantastic it never jammed or failed to opperate in any way! Sold that one and ended up buying another 2 in the space of a year and both guns were in the gunsmiths longer than i had had use of them, not cycling propperly, magazine feed problems ect but the last straw was when one of them snappe a semmi cir clip that held the piston to the bolt, sending the bolt back into that action with a hell of a whack, im not says they are all bad because i had a good one but the other 2 i wouldnt give away! So in my oppinion a bit of a gamble when buying an escort, but for the money a good buy if you get a decent one!
