which shotgun is the best deal?..

Hey everyone, i was thinking about buying my first shotgun sometime soon, i have been looking at over and under 12g shotguns for under £1000 on my local gun shops website. So far i have found four different ones that look ok, however i am not sure whether they are reputable brands, a good deal/ or rip off. by the way the beretta silver pigeon s looked good but it has a fixed choke, is this a bad thing? ideally wanted multi choke but i can live with it. Also, does anyone else think the lanber looks ugly because the colour??

here are the four guns that caught my eye:

Browning 325 Gr.1 ://www.kelbrookshootingschool.co.uk/…

Lanber field http://www.kelbrookshootingschool.co.uk/admin/k_gun_details.php?id=3520

Miroku MK-60 Gamescene http://www.kelbrookshootingschool.co.uk/admin/k_gun_details.php?id=2874

Beretta Silver Pigeon S ://www.kelbrookshootingschool.co.uk/admin/k_gun_details.php?id=3993

The best deal isn't the one that looks the best, has the most chokes or has a fancy case. Its the one that you can afford and the one that fits.

I started with an 18 year old Bikial that was £250 and because it fitted i could shoot as well as the lads that had guns ten times the price.

FIT THEN LOOKS. :good:

You mean the one i linked, do you think it is a good price? i heard it quite old and is only grade 1. When you say 'extremely nice' you act as if you have seen it even though there is no picture available??

I didn't look at your links.Go to the relevant section and click on the words 'Browning 325',you should then get pic's.

Depends what it's choked to but to be honest a nice Berretta fixed choke is probably all the gun the vast majority of shooters will ever need, depends what it's choked to though. I only own one gun and it's choked for 1/4 and 3/4 which I find is the perfect combination.

You will need to try the guns out that you have linked to, if they dont fit then it doesn't make any difference whether they come with 25 chokes, nice colours or clay seeking cartridges, you will not be able to shoot anywhere near as well as you should do. Don't get hung up on having a multichoke, it really makes no difference unless you have really tight chokes. Beretta / Browning etc will hold their price better than a Lanber but then you pay alot less for the Lanber and it will have had no shots through it.

All the links you have posted are good guns and will serve you well IF they fit. To give you an idea, I tried out the usual options you have listed but ended up with a £145 1981 Lanber O/U that I do all my clay shooting with and it hasn't given me any trouble.

Nobody can say which is the best, if they don't know what fits. The prices seem a little steep to me, but that is what haggling is for.

All of the guns are a reasonable buy.

In respect of the actual guns:-

I don't like the look of the Lanber - resale might be more of a problem.

B325 - non-chrome barrels, which are open to rusting.

Personally, I would go the extra miles to Malmo Guns. It isn't far away from Kelbrook, has a better selection and will invariably be cheaper.

Looking past fit etc (op just asks for best deal) I'd go for the beretta. Silver pigeons are great guns, don't think you will go far wrong. As for the chokes 1/4 and 1/2 are what I use in mine - hardly ever change them! Think that's the case with many. Best advice...don't buy the first gun you see, but don't expect a good looking gun to wait around for you too long either;)!!

I love my Browning 325 although an older gun they are very well made and feel solid mine is grade 3 and the engraving is really nice as well. Both the owner and his lad at my local gun shop shoot 325s so they must be pretty good. With regards to the link the price for a grade 1 seems a bit steep to me there are some better deals to be had on the sales section on here there a couple for sale at the moment for cheaper than that. The only thing is the barrels on 325s arent chromed but this is only a problem if you leave it wet in the cabinet just clean it after use and run a cloth over it should be fine, they have already lasted 20 years with no corrosion if looked after.

All guns you listed are good well known makes Lanber is the least prestigous (for want of a better word) but still very good guns and reviews on here people get on very well and have very few problems. As people say go and pick them up and find which one fits right for you they are all a decent guns. If your not in a huge rush why not go to the shooting show in 4 weeks time they have literally thousands of guns there: http://www.shootingshow.co.uk/
