lewis2012
Hi all been shooting shotguns for sometime now and had my FAC granted in october for a .17hmr. Fired over 600 rounds of ammo since then. Basically the land I shoot on has a few charlies and I wouldn't be happy shooting them with the HMR although its able to dispatch a fox I don't think its a big enough round also bridgend constabulary will not issue a HMR for fox anyways. I'm thinking of applying for a 223 or possibly a 22-250, the land has been cleared for that calibre and I also have a very good friend who has offered to mentor me as he has had a 223, he owns a 22-250, 308 etc and has mentored several times before. What do you think the chances of it being granted? I know every application is judged seperatly. Thanks all Lewis
theosmith
if land is cleared the answer is yes, aslong as farmer says he wants fox gone i think 22wmr may be allowed as is smallest in essex
T-Bolt94
Provided you can provide justification for your need then I can't see any reason as to why not...I am of course from NI and I would expect that it would be granted here so no reason why not in England. Again this is only my personal opinion on the matter. Good Luck

foxshooter69
You've got good reason, you've got the land, you've got a mentor can't see any reason you wouldn't get the variation
Bangon
mate if they gave you the 17hmr and a shotty . you have the land and reason there will not be a problem

Muddy Funker
Shame you can't just use the .17 Headshot at sensible ranges and they die, it's as simple as that.
theosmith
22 hornet is smallest caliber for deer in Essex so flo told me anyway. i think he is talking about shooting foxes but for deer in essex 22 calibres with a 50 grain bullet and a 1000ftlb is legal in all of england for chinese and munties
apache
You have a FAC so have passed all the 'fitness to be entrusted' tests You have a good reason. They CANNOT refuse. It really is that simple.
Redgum
Yep, as most have said you sound like you have good reason to be granted a .22centrefire, prob 223 would be best allround as loads of guns for sale and large choice of ammo. Send off your variation with a letter of permission from the farmer, even better if he states he has a fox problem. A 22 centrefire is the right tool for the job and as your firearms dept don't allow fox on hmr they don't really have a choice.
JonathanL
You have a FAC so have passed all the 'fitness to be entrusted' tests You have a good reason. They CANNOT refuse. It really is that simple. Is the correct answer. J.
bedwards1966
100% chance; you're legally entitled to it.
al4x
Not 100% but there is a very good chance, it has been heard of for them to recheck land or other issues but on the face of it there shouldn't be a problem
