On a side note, I was out Saturday and experienced the mossy 500 jam when going for high birds, on the forth shot (a group of 5 came over heading slow into the high wind and I shoot FAC) the cartridge loaded onto the elevator but the front of the cartridge fell through the hole in the elevator and jammed the action. On my Mossberg I initially had a similar, though much exagerated problem, where sometimes the gun would even chuck the second shell onto the floor in front of me! I researched this quite a bit, and in the end determined it was the cartridge stop and the cartridge interuptor. I called the shop who saidthey would replace the bits, but didnt think it would make any difference. I got the bits, and it was perfect from that moment on ! On the subject of pump action shotguns, I'd much rather take the advice of a US police armourer who's been working on them for 20 years than the importer into the UK who specialises in saddles Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

For me I think by (and has been said earlier in the thread I think) using 67mm carts it slid too for back on the elevator and for some reason the cart fell the wrong way through the elevator hole... I suspect if the hole wasnt there or was smaller it wouldnt happen? The first 3 shots in similar elevation were fine tho. throdgrain Posted February 18, 2013 Report Share Posted February 18, 2013 It's the angle that the stop / interuptor were cut at, that allowed the shell to fall out onto the floor. Since replaceing them the gun would cycle anything at all, 65mm 67mm etc etc. I also did the cycle of "is it me?" is it the cartridges?" "there cant be anything wrong with the gun" Then I went on THR and asked people who know what they are on about, and fixed the problem. My current Benelli and Remington will both cycle any size cartridges too, up to thier max, which is 2.5 " to 3.5" for the Benelli, and shorter for the 870. However, my problem may be different to yours, I realise that. If it's only happened once I wouldnt worry about it. My Mossberg got so that it did it every 3rd or 4th time, which is annoying, especially on a new gun, as it was then. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

thepasty Posted February 19, 2013 Author Report Share Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) So out shooting clays this avo with my bro, we took his 870 express as its yet to have a proper bashing. I stuck a good few carts throught it and altho its a cracking gun with a silky smooth action I think I prefer the more clunky action of my mossy. My mossy has a definite start and end click as the empty gets ejected and the new cart engages, the 870 is a straight smooth action start to finish, I kept having to check to see whether I'd short stroked it or the like... I know its what you're used too but right now I'm preferring the rough mossy action... weird I know.
