impala59
Sorry about that! But your mention of blackbird pie regressed me to childhood. I can't get the nursery rhyme out of my head now! Good luck with the rooks, the pump won't let you down.

impala59
After a bit of a lay off, (work unfortunately!) I managed to get the section 1 Ithaca 37 out for a day's PSG. A pretty good work out with 28g fibre and NO fails to extract ended when the slide action bar spot welds failed! Never rains but............... Still, generally happy and a fairly simple repair, love those 37's

impala59
WHAT PUMP IS THIS? I hope that the pump club and PW massive can help me to identify the manufacturer of my latest acquisition, bought somewhat blind at auction. It is Italian, the proof marks state 1987, provisional and final nitro 3",(thanks to B25modelman for pointer) the barrel one side "CAL 12 MAG CH 76MM-3"- MADE IN ITALY", the other side "KG 0870 CAM 76 18.4 *** (serial no.) (Different number to receiver) Stripping down, it felt as familiar as an 870, the trigger group almost identical. The differences, both take-down pins the same size, an alloy receiver (very similar to my Valtro PM5 with the distinctive Italian edged shoulder at the rear) with the ejector mounted in the barrel extension. The stock mounting bolt is a fairly hefty alloy affair. It has a 28" nominal half choke barrel, which is one of the brightest internally that I have ever seen and when re-assembled after a deep clean and lube, the action is solid, smooth and workmanlike. A little research has got me this far; My first thought was an '80's Franchi PA7, but my gun is somewhat more elegant than the PA7 and the trigger group and safety is wrong. I then stumbled across a schematic of a Hatsan Escort pump and realised that all the internal parts, with the exception of the "Italian shouldered receiver" were identical. I wondered whether the first generation Escorts had a "shouldered" receiver. I attempted to discover the origin of the Hatsan, found one brief statement to the effect of " the Hatsan range of shotguns were designed in Italy" and then no more. Any help would be appreciated Gentlemen, its on my certificate as "Italian" and for some reason that bugs the hell out of me! Edit.......... Ok so it seems that this is a Fabarm FP6 (also marketed as Heckler and Koch FP6) which with H & K designed furniture evolved into the Hatsan Escort. Only differences are cosmetic, all the working parts (870 clone) continue unchanged. Not a bad history I suppose, maybe someone could fill in the gaps. It reminds me of my old Squires and Bingham model 30, which is currently marketed (unchanged) as the Armscor Rock Island PA shotgun. Its a bit like the music business really, there's nothing new just the classics re-mastered! Edited July 27, 2016 by impala59
TONY R
Need some info if anyone can help me on a WINCHESTER MODEL 42 pump .. its a .410, its in used but still presentable condition, wood is tidy the odd scuff and mark and a bit of cabinet rash but overall good, blue is about 90% but has a very nice aged look about it most of the blue loss is around the muzle trigger guard etc. Whats it worth, i am not sure if its a 3 inch or a 2.5 inch think its 3 inch, I came accross it this afternoon when i went to look at a 16 bore Browning BPS, the chap brought out the winchester i was suprised it was a .410 and he only wanted 110 pounds for it, which given the price i got the BPS for 225 and its like new i agreed to buy them both, just wanted a bit of info on the model 42 if anyone knew anything about them. It handled superb was light but it did not feel at all pokey it handled great. Edited August 1, 2016 by TONY R

I am picking them up at the weekend i rode over on the bike today to look at the BPS. the 42 as i said he just brought it out, he got it froman air man at the old RAF holmpton on the east coast back after the war. As i said its not perfect but its only fair wear and tear looks right in everyway just as it is, not touching the finnish. The 16bore BPS as simply done nothing from new its close to mint. I have been looking for a 16 pump or auto for some time, mate wants to swap me his Remington 1100 sportsman synthetic in 16 for the BPS im tempted. TONY R
Winchester model 42. You lucky ******!!!! Bargain of the century id have said. Get some pictures uploaded once you've got it. Well i like it, i have known him years hes packing in shooting slow but steady, everytime i go he decides to let something else go, i thought it was cheap and i told him so, but like he said he as took it around various shops all over the place over the past year or so and to buy them off him cash thats all the trade wants to pay so i get the guns for the same money, i turned down a mint 525 browninbg a lightweight model for 900 must be a cheap gun at that money but its all the trade offered him. >410 pumps are not everyones cup of tea, i mean look at wingmasters 500 700 and more its what people will pay and having a bloke stood there with the money that counts, i mean me i would never pay 700 notes for a .410 pump wingmaster model 12 model 42 anything, bbut some will move heaven and hell to get at them, ive done ok, and ill post up some pics from the field when i get it, its like the old lad said he knows ill use it, ILL USE it alright, trouble is with me is that such a good thing for the old gun, i wear stuff out me. impala59
Another classic joins my growing collection! This one is a Mossberg New Haven 12g model 600AT 28" polychoke and is in generally excellent condition. the barrel could do with an external re-finish but otherwise a solid working gun. It is a fairly early model as it has the slide locking collar (where the mag tube is screwed in) which is a bit of a pain when stripping down as the slide cannot be removed without removing the mag tube which is itself loc-tited solidly in place. impala59
Thats right, but they are different in number only. In all other ways they are model 500's, all parts identical and made in the same factory. For some reason the 500's always seem to be more expensive than the identical 600's Edited August 8, 2016 by impala59

Used it on foxes, and avian pests etc 'til I thinned out things around '97. A good gun, never let me down, the adjustable 'C-lect' choke was a bit 'iffy' though. Been wrestling with this 'new' computer......... hence the silence, oh yes and a new lady-friend has appeared too, who likes my M37 etc etc......... so looking good! When I can find a bigger hammer, and sort out this electronic box of trickery, I'd send some photos of my '37 with your woodwork on it, I'm delighted with it, and caused some comments at local clay-club recently. Ben need a walk and me a pint! Adios Amigos
