To Flock or not to Flock

Getting my first decoys and there are the flocked or non flocked types. Is there much of a difference? If so, is it worth an extra £10 per dozen?

IMO flocked are far better , they shine less in sun and when wet and I think they look more natural colour wise.

Definitely get flocked for the sake of £10....

 

Plastic shells glint in the sun as they begin to chip or if you get a little rain on them.

+1 flocked. But worth paying a little extra for quality ones as some cheap ones moult.

I use silosock covers on my flock and non flock, it was cheaper than buying more deeks, and they seem to work pretty well.

Normal plastics for me and never had a problem with them.

Just use normal plastic decoys.Most flocked decoys i have seen seem to change colour when they have seen a bit of sun.

The ones from UKSHOOTWAREHOUSE are decent quality. Had mine about three years and flock hasn't come away nor have the changed colour.

I echo the call for ordinary plastic half shell decoys.

 

Sportplast make the best, the plastic is of a higher quality than ALL the others. Although they are more expensive.

 

Get flocked versions if you are prepared to pay the extra.

Don't buy flock jackpyke decoys. The flock comes off in a few weeks. Iv used plastic for years and done ok. But use dead birds if you can. good luck.

Good quality flocked decoys are the best, in my opinion. I have some from pinewood that i've had for years. The flocking on them is as good as the day i got them and i've killed thousands of pigeons whilst using them.

Not wanting ti hijack the thread but is there really that much difference between the different makes of decoys where the quality of the flocking is concerned?

Maybe an answer to question that would help the OP (And other members) making a decision on which to buy.

I've had the same 15 flock coated decoys from the same supplier for the last fifteen years and I must have used them possibly as many as 400 times and they are still attracting pigeons (sometimes!).
